Hi diagnosed in May
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:50:31 pm »
Hi I was diagnosed in May with a 3mm VS while having an MRI for something else. I also have hydrocephalus with a vp shut due to a hemmorage at birth.  I have talked to my neuro and an ent and both have kinda give me the brush off because it's so small.   They just want to repeat the MRI in a year. just curious if I should maybe see a specialist in VS since i have been having headaches on that side for well over a year. I had my shunt checked and it's fine so I can only assume it might be the VS....

Chrissy

With it being 3mm, that is pretty much standard practice to wait one year to see if it grows at all.  I know someone who has been in watch and wait for 20 years.  Although that is very unusual, it does happen.

Chrissy,

There are free consultations available if you'd like to whom you can send your MRI and reports to and you will receive expert advice on what your next step should be or if you can afford to watch and wait.

You can send them to the House Ear Institute (Dr. Friedman) and to UPMC (Dr. Kondziulka), in 2004, when I wanted additional consults they sent them to me. In 2012, I even went to UPMC from New York where I live. What's better than free? (Of course you have to cover the cost of shipping your MRI and reports.) But I ask you , is this to high a price to pay for peace of mind? Both doctors are highly skilled at neurosurgery and Gamma Knife. As you can check out for yourself if you check them out in the Physicians section.

I can assure you, I am employed by neither.

I have the benefit (or stupidity) of consulting with 14 docs. These two were relatively free and didn't make me visit them as my 12 others did.

Good luck.

I'm sorry to have to welcome you like this but welcome anyway. Feel free to use us if you'd like. Pay attention to your YELLOW FLAG! It seems as if you've just gotten one. I think the blog about YELLOW FLAGS is in the AN Issues section.

In addition to the places already mentioned by Mike, I  also sent my MRI to Dr. Chang at Stanford.  All provided free consultation.  With caring,
