Blinkeze
« on: October 25, 2011, 10:04:30 am »
Is Blinkeze only available through a prescription? I had another surgery in Jan. I had the gold weight taken out
and a platinum chain put in. Big mistake! I have more eye issues than before. I also had a cheek implant 14 years ago.
I loved it. Eventually gravity took over and I needed another lift. He did a facial nerve graft and I don't like it nearly
as much as I did the cheek implant. I am currently looking for another surgeon in central Pa. to do this. I am definitely
interested in getting the Blinkeze taken care of first.

Mary Ann ~

I've not needed to use Blinkezeâ„¢ strips and so, I could be mistaken but I believe they cannot be purchased over the counter and are only available through a doctor.  I would call your doctor/ophthalmologist to ascertain how to obtain the strips.  I trust that actual Blinkezeâ„¢ users will eventually add to this thread with first-hand information.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thanks, I have a platnium chain in my right eyelid but it doesn't seem heavy enough.

Mary Ann, you do need a prescription for BlinkEze. They have a website at http://www.meddev-corp.com/1%20product/Eyelid%20Closure%20Products/External%20Weights.2.htm and have been good about answering questions when I have contacted them.

The concept is great but I had trouble with mine. It was fairly heavy (1.6 grams) and tended to roll whenever I blinked. I have an internal platinum weight now and am much happier with it.

How long have you had your platinum chain? If it is not heavy enough you may want to consult with your surgeon about replacing it with a heavier one.

I had a gold weight implant that looked bulky. I got the Platinum chain in January. I also had a piece put
in to hold up the lower lid. I had that taken out and now all these months later I have been having more issues
with my eye than ever before. I hate to have them keep cutting on my face.

I also had a facial nerve graft which I feel is just ok. My smile at rest looks good but it looked alot better with
the cheek implant I had done after my initial surgery. You know, it's been 16 years and I will never be at peace
with this. I can deal with the hearing loss. Maybe if I can get my eye straightened out I'd feel better
Oh..I looked at the size of the gold weight and it was 1.2

I've been thinking about this a bit and I really have to wonder if a Blinkeze would work in tandem with an internal weight or chain. Seem like it would be quite bulky and I would also be afraid of pulling on the thinner eyelid.

Is your chain lighter than the solid weight that was taken out? I'm sorry you do not like it - I have heard good things about the chains.

This comment isn't about the Blinkeze because I've never had to use them.

I have a gold weight and you can't even see it. When they first put it i you could then it started to move so my Eye specialist took it out in repositioned it and then he also did a tuck in my lower lid to handle everything better. My eye looks much better and functions better as well.

As for the nerve graft I have also had that and it helped but I started doing my own exercises and now I can even get my right side to move without moving my tongue. It was allot of work but it was worth it.

What type of eye specialist/ Just your regular eye doctor? I think i need the lower lid built up.
I do have some movement in my face. Not as much as I like. I saw at Hershey Medical Center they
actually facial paralysis physical therapy. I had started that in Pittsburg but it was a 4 hour drive.
I'm going to check it out because Hershey is 10 min. from my house.

That sounds like a great place to start, Mary Ann. The facial physical therapist will likely have ideas and contacts for you.

I see an Ophthalmologist  in Hinsdale,IL.
He is highly recommended by the Ear Institute of Chicago where my AN doctors are.
