Symptom Questions
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:28:58 pm »
I am going to my ENT on tuesday and my symptoms are several and some have gone on for 9 years.

Pressure behind eyes, watering of eyes, headaches recent symptoms, slight problems trying to say words.
a little twitching of fingers in hand. fullness in right ear and a noise in same ear. Never liked to bend down to
tie shoe.  minor balance problems.

I am not hoping for any tumor, but i am hoping since it has been bothering me so long that is a AN rather than some alternatives.

Does any symptoms sound like ones you may have had.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the ANA discussion forums.

To answer your question: yes, many of the symptoms you mentioned in your post are similar to those AN patients have, specifically the 'fullness' and 'noise' (tinnitus?) in one ear - and the balance problems.  However, there are many possible causes for such symptoms and frankly, only an MRI scan with contrast can establish whether or not you have an acoustic neuroma.  I would insist that the ENT doctor order one for you to get to the source of these annoying symptoms.  Nine years is too long to live with this and if you have an acoustic neuroma, the sooner you find out, the better, so that it can be addressed before it grows larger and generates even more problems for you.  Like you, I hope it isn't an acoustic neuroma causing these symptoms but whatever it is, you need to know.

Thank You Jim.

I have over the years been worked up at good clinics for these symptoms but
they investigated about everything except my brain.

Also my sense of taste is about gone.

Yes i am going to ask for a mri with contrast
