Hi, Pat ~

I've been following this thread but didn't have anything substantive to add.  Now, I do.  Congratulations!  :)

Jim
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thanks, Jim.  Was expecting tarsorraphy so was surprised when Dr. Masolf suggested this approach.  My smile is just beginning to come back, but no sign of improvement around the eye.  This surgery made my eye look 'normal'.  It's amazing how much better I look even with all the swelling.  None of the surgery should have to be 'undone' once my facial nerve comes back around the eye.  After having gone through this procedure, I can't imagine why anyone would have plastic surgery simply to look younger.  I'll gladly take my wrinkles...lol

Hi Pat,
Well a grueling time, sounds like but worth the effort! Sounds pretty technical, and awake through the whole thing. (I'm wincing)
Glad to hear you have symmetrical eye movement. How great for you.
Thanks for sharing :)

Dr. is hoping I won't need a weight.  Since the ligament he 'adjusted' wants to contract as it heals, I have to keep 'stretching' my upper eyelid by closing my eye and massaging the lid upwards towards my eyebrow.  It hurts right now, but will get better as it heals.  If I don't keep checking how well it is closing and keeping the ligament stretched out, the contraction will undo the surgery.  If I can keep the ligament loose enough to continue closing the eye completely, I will not need a weight in the eyelid.  I guess time will tell.

Right now, I'll be glad when the stitches are out on Friday.  They dry out and pull.  The skin is pretty sore around them.  I look like I got in a fight with a rainbow.  My upper lid is shades of blue and purple.  My eye itself is red.  The skin around my eye, underneath it, and next to my nose is bright orange with a touch of yellow.  Too bad I have brown eyes instead of green.  If they were green, I'd have every color of the rainbow...lol
