Have to admit I've fallen off the exercise wagon a bit.

Budget time @ work - many long, long days.  Frankly it's been a bit hellacious  ::)  Although this is a time I should exercise the most by the time I get home from work I have no energy left.

Am hoping to rectify the situation starting tomorrow morning and get back into the swing of things.

Don't worry, Jan.. I've not only fallen off the exercise wagon, I've been run over by it and dragged a few miles.   :-\

Hi guys:  I wonder if we all have 'up & down' weeks - last week I had alot more energy,  this week not so much,  so I adjust accordingly & don't push my body as much.  I'm sure workout trainers would say that's when you should exercise more !  Oh well,  as long as we're all happy & healthy !

I know I've been MIA on this thread for quite awhile, but I've been running and biking off and on for the last few weeks. Non-stop rain around here yesterday and today. However, I commit to a 10 mile run or 50 mile bike ride tomorrow morning (if rain ever stops).

Be active and safe everyone.

Cheri -

you can bike post AN.  The balance is a little wobbly at first, but in time (and I found it was a short time) you'll be able to ride just like you could prior to surgery.

That is - if you could ride prior to surgery.  I don't know about the 50 miles though - have never attempted that (probably because I'm not in as good physical shape as Patrick is).

Good luck!

Cheri, I agree with Jan. You should be able to bike unless you have serious balance issues. I know I've been fortunate, but the only real balance issue I have is trying to maneuver in the dark (like in a movie theater when the lights are very dim). As long as I can see well, I'm good to go.

Just completed a half marathon distance (13 miles) run this morning....pretty tough in the Houston humidity, but glad I did it.

Let's go guys....y'all don't have to do any long distance stuff, just get out and walk, jog, run, bike, bowl, workout, or whatever for a half hour or more...you'll feel better for having done it.

Enjoy and be safe.

Patrick

I finally got in to see a back specialist after almost a year of chronic back pain that has kept me from doing any meaningful exercise.  On Tues, I recieved two fluoroscope-guided injections in my sacroiliac joints.  The doc said it would take a few days to kick in if it works.  I HAVE to get back to exercising--losing all my muscle tone and been rather depressed.  I've also put myself on a gluten-free anti-inflammatory diet, which I hope will benefit not only my back, but my headaches and psyche as well.  I posted some research over in the headache section. I'm starting gently with the exercises the PT gave me.

See you in the gym!

Cheri ... I put one training wheel on my daughters bike and can ride fine like that ...I balance on the wheels like I should and when I wobble I lean left to the one training wheel and it catches me…when the wobble passes I continue on on 2 wheels til the next wobble  ... I can skate no problem but the bike is hard ... until several weeks ago I said I couldn't ride anymore ... but I can ...just in altered state as to what I once did ...

hope shots work for you Captain and you will be able to get back in the swing of things exercise wise ...

Most of my hours home over weekend were spent snoring and no exercising

Thursday the girls had regional 4-H competition ...youngest took 4th place in her division and oldest took 3rd in hers ... it was a long day and made longer by leader appreciation banquet that night ...came in long enough to change and turn around and go to town ...got in late and then Friday had to set up for school talent show ... we ran the concession stand ... the girls did a dance/skit  to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. with Me and My Shadow ... they got 2nd in their grade level even if the kids had no idea who Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra was ... my kids are clowns ... was at school all day and came home and slept through til morning ...got up at 7:00 and  went to sell tickets for a couple hours ,  on a bench that PTO gave away at the horse show Saturday night ... got home slept 3 hours and then over to horse show and didn't get home til around 11:00 ... Sunday I got up , ate ,went back to bed and slept til about noon ...got up and got the girls ready for violin and guitar recital ... got to school at 1:30 and left around 3:00 ... cooked , fed people , left dirty kitchen and went back to bed around 8 last night and got up this morning ready to go ...

nothing I did was overly active ... just busy and emotionally tiresome ...heck at horse show I pretty much sat the whole time watching horses go in circles around track for 5 hours or so ...drank alot but didn't eat much over last few days ... so kinda blah feeling ... but have nothing to do all week until Friday when I go to the science museum with school group … so plan on spending the week getting reacquainted with my broom ,washer , and sink and see if I still know how to use them ...the school , 4-H and community need to coordinate better ... there were several of us involved with all the events ...but  I was the only one that dropped into unconsciousness repeatedly

Next week hope to get back in routine of walking the gym floor … with school getting ready to close for summer I need to refigure  this … I rather get up in wee hours of day and get moving … kids would rather stay in bed late …I  would rather not walk alone down our roads … may have to forcibly get one of them up and walk before Bo leaves for work … get back and they can go back to sleep for a bit …next day get the other up … or try to get Bo up an hour early and make him walk with me …not likely …. That would mean getting up at 4:30 and I don’t see that happening … evenings would work also but by the time the sun is low enough to not bother me and high enough to still see by Bo is tired from 8 hours on the job and another 3 or 4 on the farm and the kids are ready to crash …mornings are best

Or may be time to invest in family plan at curves for me and the girls …

all that and I forgot something

Hannah my oldest has mis-put-together legs and walks on tippy toes ... therapy has been expensive and has done no good ... her leg muscles are hard as rock now after it all but her knees still pop , her hip dislocates and she still walks on her toes ...

She bought a pair of Danskins Nows ...Danskins version on Shape Ups ... $25 at Wally World ... she walks around fine with no falling and loves them ... the boat shaped bottom forces her to keep her foot flattened out and she doesn't tip toe ... may work to help stretch her tendons out ... even if they don't , keeping her in them will stop the damage to her foot bones cause by all her weight balanced on the front 1/4 of her foot

the Danskins are bouncy , but not nearly as bouncy as the real shape ups ... I can even walk in them with out falling over ...still not planning on getting a pair

what she likes best about them is she is now 2 inches taller than me instead of an 2 inches shorter  ;D
