Decision Made
« on: January 06, 2010, 10:19:12 am »
Was first diagnosed about a year ago; freaked out for a while; researched and researched options; posted on here a few times as well.  My neuro surgeon while not 'banning' me from gamma knife felt that at my age of 36 I would be a much better candidate for surgery than gamma knife.  I insisted on being referred to see a gamma knife specialist which I had just before Christmas.  I then set myself the task of enjoying Christmas and then making a decision early in 2010.  Well the decision is now made and I am on the waiting list for gamma knife.  Its a relief to have made a decision and hopefuly kill this thing inside my head.  Obviously still got apprehension - have I made the right decision; will it be sucessful; will I need salvage surgery at some point etc, etc,!

Here's to the next stage of the journey!

Extending my congrats wishes to you for completing the decision-making process! Well done! Great to feel that monkey off your back. Sending wellness wishes your way...... where in the UK are you having the GK done? I know of many there that have had it done and just curious.

Please keep us updated as to when your GK will be scheduled so we can all cheer you on!

Again, congrats!

Cheers!

Mark ~

Congratulations on reaching a treatment decision!  Some second-guessing is almost de rigueur at this point but if you did the research and are comfortable with your choice, don't allow yourself to agonize over the 'what if's'.  Take things as they come.  If you ever require surgery, worry about that when it happens, not now.   You'll be better off focusing on the post-radiation future.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Mark,

Ditto everything Jim said.  Have confidence in your decision, take life as it comes.  Good luck getting in to get the GK quickly.  It will be so nice to have it done and behind you.
