NEWS FLASH!!!!!
« on: August 03, 2007, 09:39:41 am »
Hi everybody,

I am very excited to tell you all about a brand new contact lens for all of us with dry eye problems.  I am probably somewhat different from most of you because my cornea had to be replaced.  But we all still have to deal with the no tears problems.

Anyway, the name of the lens is synergeyes.  I had to go to a contact lens specialist to be fitted for it. It is so new that I think I am the 3rd patient to try it.  It is unique because it combines two types of contact lens materials- a gas permeable center (hard) and a soft outer skirt.  The dr. put a few drops of liquid gel on the lens and I put it in my eye.  It has only been one day, but there was a big difference in comfort from the beginning!!! And I didn't  have to put in that yucky lacrilube until I went to sleep last night.

I think this will help so many of us!!!  I don't quite understand this part, but the dr. also said that the lens probably won't help everyone...... But this is something Big!!!

Oh, they are very expensive but they called my insurance co. and said the contact was 'medically necessary' and the insurance co. agreed to pay for it.

How's that for having a very good day!

Goodmorning!

I had my official 2nd day with this new contact and I really am happy with it.  I used to put lacrilube in my eye all the time during the day, sometimes every hour.  Yesterday, I only used the regular eye drops just a few times!!!!!

I did ask my Dr. why wasn't I fitted for the contact before now and he explained that they have just figured out how this contact works for people like us..... And he said few places actually have the contacts at their office.

I hope each of you can benefit like I did!!!

Hey Patti,

Great news!  I wonder if it would work for me.  I have no feeling in my eye along with dryness and not blinking.  It would sure be nice not to have to use ointment all day long.

Patti, I am about to visit my ophthalmologist and would like to discuss the SynergEyes lenses with him. Do you know what type of lens you are using? I am thinking it might be the postsurgical lens or maybe the CleanKone one.

Thanks,
Sara

Patti ~

Congratulations on finding this solution and thanks for passing the news on to others who may be able to benefit from your discovery.  Well done.

Here is an e-mail that I received today from a representative from SynergEyes in response to a request for information. I have deleted identifying information. I have not yet heard from my ophthalmologist. I might need to go to St. Louis to talk to someone who specializes in fitting the SynergEyes lenses but I've been going there for facial physical therapy anyway.

Sara,

It’s certainly possible that a Synergeyes hybrid contact lens may help to retain a healthy tear layer over the front surface of your eyes, especially if augmented with judicious use of rewetting drops--though you may be advised to use one of the less viscous versions of the Refresh drops that are designed to work better with contact lens wear during the day.  As for which specific lens design would work best, that is something that more likely depends on factors other than your surgical or neurological history—i.e. your corneal topography and refractive needs will be the primary determinants.  I would suggest that you use the prescriber locator at our website www.synergeyes.com to find someone near you who is certified in all of our lens designs so as to maximize your options.  They will be best qualified to help you decide if SynergEyes has a lens that will help your particular needs.  Thank you for sharing your ideas and for your interest in the SynergEyes family of hybrid lenses.

Hello. I have left-side facial paresis following a microvascular decompression surgery for hemifacial spasm. I have incomplete blinking on that side aided by a platinum eyelid implant. While I have regained some movement, my ophthalmologist and facial physical therapist do not think I will regain a full blink. Currently I use Refresh PM around the clock to keep my cornea moist. It works well and my cornea has remained in good health, but of course it blurs the vision in that eye. I have adapted fairly well for the most part, but would certainly like to have clear vision back especially when driving at night. A person on an on-line support group I frequent mentioned that her ophthalmologist had prescribed a Synergeyes lens for her and it worked very well. I have contacted her to ask what type of lens she uses, but she has not responded. I am hoping that you can suggest which lens might work best in my situation. I think that a post-surgical lens might work, or ClearKone since it rests on the sclera which might make it easier to keep the cornea moist. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer. There are more people than you might think in the same situation so this could be another niche market for your company. Sincerely, Sara Hartman
