Concerned with tumor remaining after six year
« on: May 10, 2016, 07:01:03 pm »
I had my AN removed in April of 2010 with a small sliver left to save the facial nerve. I had gammaknife in 2013 to try and kill it. I've been having lots of issues the last several months so the doctor had my MRI moved up. I just had it on Friday. I called today and the radiologist states the tumor is exactly the same as last scan in December. I asked what size it was and they said 2cm X 1cm. Would any of you be concerned about this if it were you? I still have horrible headaches, which I've had since surgery, but now I've been having facial pressure, a tingling feeling, and dizzy spells. Would you wait this out or get a second opinion? I've missed work now several days for the headaches and bad tinnitus which I've never experienced this bad. It's usually just a slight hum or ring. Thanks for listening.

97% balance loss, minimal hearing loss
Surgery 4-2-10 at Methodist Hospital, Dr. Long and Moore

Considering your symptoms, it would be a good idea to get opinions from the AN specialists.

3/15/18 12mm x 6mm x5mm
9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

My surgery was two months before yours, and I had radiation two years later instead of three. Just had my 17th MRI last week. Tumor remnants are the same size, about a double-thick lima bean. As long it appears be dead and not growing, I'm happy. I do have slightly more difficulty with swallowing, but I believe that is due to increased drainage because of steadily worsening allergies. My hemifacial spasms are rarely noticeable.

So, in your case, I would get a second opinion, but it should include consideration of what other causes of your symptoms might be. Not everything is about the tumor, altho our first reaction tends to take us there.

Wow Tod, your tumor was so large, I hope you are doing well.
I am waiting for my MRI disc from my neurosurgeon and my last scan from the radiation doc so I can maybe send them to HOUSE?
Thanks for the info,
Susan

Thanks Skamper, I am doing quite well. Life is good.

House will likely need more than just the MRI. They will need to be able to compare it to at least the last one and need to know about your surgery and radiation. You might contact them first and see what they need.
