gentamicin injection anyone?
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:36:08 am »
The last time I posted I was 18 mo post GK and things were holding steady.  There had been no changes on my MRI so the doctors were happy.  I; however, was a bit disappointed since I wanted to hear that there was shrinkage.

Now its been 2 yrs since GK and I am having increased balance/higher pitched ringing (in addition to my normal tinnitus)/eye issues (jumping--making reading, driving or computer work difficult).  My doctor explains that the nerve is in the process of dying and sending mixed messages to my brain causing this craziness.  He recommends having a gentamicin injection which will "kill" off what's left of the nerve in a few weeks instead of dragging out its slow death.  This will cause a few weeks of dizziness, but should resolve all of my issues after that time.

At this point I am pretty desperate since there is never a day gone by without continual symptoms and a struggle.

The injection treatment typically is used to treat Vertigo.

Has anyone crossed this path in their journey?  and chosen the gentamicin?
I would appreciate any experiences or opinions please.

Thank you for your support.
