B12
« on: September 03, 2010, 10:29:58 am »
I have heard that taking B12 can help improve facial nerve function and I'm willing to try anything. Does anyone have experience with this? How much is safe and still effective? Do you take it with food or on an empty stomach? Thoughts appreciated.

I have never heard of this, but then again I'm sure there are lots of things I've never heard of.

I'd ask your doctor - especially your question about how much you can safely take.

Yes it does help my tinnitus.  I have posted before it is called Lipo-Flavonoid Plus.  Developed by a doctor it is considered a dietary supplement and it has a combination of B1,B2,B6, and B12.  It has also helped me with my fullness of head feeling.  It does take awhile for it to start working, they recommend a 6 month use.

Good Luck

B-12 is supposed to be good for the nerves. I take 5000 milligrams daily in the sublingual form, (under the tongue) as research says that more is absorbed by the body this way.

Hi Moe,

My husband and I have found that through I-Herb.com we get the best price for the B-12, and it must contain Methycobalamin, which
helps the blood stream to absorb more of the B-12. Hope that helps! We buy it 6 bottles at a time for a discount!

Good-luck,
Blessings always
Jackie

One thing I have learned about the B vitamins is that it is best to take the whole complex, as all the B's work together synergistically; you can include an extra dose of the B you need. I developed trigeminal neuralgia after radiation and after using an anti-seizure drug, went to a naturopath who put me on a regimen of B vitamins, magnesium and a fish oil to feed the nerve. I also had acupuncture for the nerve. I have now been off the drug for over 2 years.

Interesting Mysticfem, can you list all the B's and other minerals and oils that you are taking.  I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia as well and I take lots of meds to help with the pain.  I also suffer from headaches.  I worry about my liver, so I have been interested in a more body friendly approach.

This is interesting since I have been taking once/mo injectable B-12 for 20+ years due to my Crohn's leaving scar tissue in my terminal ileum and subsequently having it removed (and more).  I cannot absorb dietary B-12.  My tinnitus postdates this therapy having started in 2005 with only sporadic incidences the previous 10 years.  My tested blood levels of B-12 are good as well.
