Birmingham vs Houston vs Nashville
« on: March 29, 2025, 09:24:52 am »
My husband has a 4 cm tumor, and it’s causing issues with mobility and hearing.  It needs to be removed very soon.

Please give me pros and cons about Baylor, UAB, and Vanderbilt.

Have you had experience with the doctors in any of those locations?

Also, what about lodging.

We live near one of the hospitals, but we will go to the one where he is the most comfortable with the doctors.

Thank you for any advice.

I had my surgery at Vanderbilt in July 2022.  Brain tumors are the pits, but the Vanderbilt team was great.  We had discussed other places, but besides the good things we heard about the doctors, Vanderbilt was closest to home. I developed some post-surgery complications so I am glad that we chose somewhere we could easily drive back to for treatment.

Vanderbilt is a great choice. It has had a Skull-based surgery Center for many years.  UAB specializes in glioblastomas, but is not as good as Vanderbilt for skull-based benign tumors like ANAs. Have you considered Dr. Friedman in San Diego? If you can afford going to CA, it’s well worth the trip.
