mri normal-abr not?
« on: August 08, 2013, 04:46:39 am »
In late June I had an MRI with contrast that came back normal. I then had an ABR performed last week. Yesterday my ENT called to say that the ABR shows a definite AN.

From all that I've read this seems backwards to me. Has anyone else ever head of being diagnosed in such a strange way?

Thanks so much for any insight you may be able to offer.

Doesn't make sense to me either.

I suggest a consultation with an AN specialist.

Give us your location and you'll get a bunch of response from people who have been treated in your part of the country.
3/15/18 12mm x 6mm x5mm
9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

Thanks arizonajack. My ENT did say that she was sending my results to a neurologist and that they would contact me today to set up an appointment. It's 4:30pm and I haven't heard from them yet. She also said she wanted me to see the neurologist immediately. Hmmmm, suddenly everything's an emergency?
I realize that I should've asked her more questions (such as size of the AN) but I was at work and in my very quiet office people love to listen to other's conversations.
I neglected to mention my location... thanks for the reminder. I'm in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Hi,

As far as I know, they can not tell size, exact location, etc. from the ABR.  That info is determined by the MRI.  It sounds to me like someone misread your MRI.

I am in Webberville which is about 20 miles east of Lansing, MI.  My ENT referred me to Dr. Arts at U of M and I have been very pleased with him.  U of M has a great web-site if you want more info on their department and there is even a video with Dr. Arts talking.

Feel free to send me a personal message if you have any questions or would like any additional information.

No change, continue w&w, repeat MRI in 6months

Hello;
ABR cannot indicate any ear disorder of itself. It is an "indicator".
MRI is the primary diagnostic tool.
That's a strange thing for an ENT to say, but, they do say strange things as are not AN specialists.
