Pain when yawning?
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:21:59 pm »
Does anyone else notice pain (really awful pain, actually) when you yawn?  My ear (deep inside) hurts so badly when I yawn or open my mouth really wide.  I have a splitting headache right now because of it. I was told it is from the tumor, it's not TMJ or anything to do with my jaw.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Ughh.  I feel like I'm starting to get pretty depressed about all of this.  The pain, the hearing loss, the uncertainty about what is going to be the course we take.  This, with all my spine/nerve issues is just really becoming overwhelming. (I have nerve loss all the way down my right arm into my hand from my last spine fusion)  I'm still extremely active and loving life, just feeling overwhelmed.  Blah!

Danielle .....

Have you told your doctor(s) about this awful pain?  I cannot seem to find out if you are watching and waiting or have scheduled a surgery/treatment.  In any event, you should alert your doctors about this pain, especially if it is new or greatly increased from before.

Keep in mind that stress/tension makes any pain much worse so try to minimize your stress by focusing on other activities and/or taking walks, etc.

Best thoughts and many prayers.  Let us know how you are doing.

I have pain when I yawn also.  If I am not careful, yawning can bring on a headache, I try not to yawn widely.

This may be AN related, but it could also be due to other reasons. I have had the same problem a few times during the previous months, but fortunately on the non-AN side (otherwise, of course I would have attributed to the AN right away). It was actually quite painful. My dentist suggested that it may be due to teeth clenching during the night, which causes stress to the jaw. He suggested that if it doesn't go away, it may be a good idea to try a mouthguard. I am just mentioning this to point out that there are other reasons that could cause pain, and oddly it can be single sided.

My pain and pressure are pretty constant but yawning can make it increase as well.  Mine is only on the AN side so I hope I am not ignoring something else and blaming it on the AN, time will tell, this is a crazy train we are on.

Funny -

speaking of sigs - your profile says you are pre-treatment ATM.

What is ATM? (other than an automatic teller machine).

Sorry about the net chat speak.

ATM = at the moment

I had problems with people saying "idk". When they were asked a question. I would try and put words to "idk". And came up with "I don't care." haha. But it means "I don't know."

Thanks for the clarification Funny.

Although we use lots of initials here on the Forum (ANA, AN, BAHA, SSD, IMO, etc.) ATM was a new one on me.

Guess ya learn something every day!  ;D
