I like this site too Chris, it has helped me sooo much, don't know where I'd be mentally without it.

I find the spam more of an annoyance, like a fly in the house;   not enough to make me leave the site though!!

From what I'm reading others feel the same way.

Admin, if you are reading this, appoint Moderators to the site so we can get rid of the spamers, please. It will get very tedious to scroll to the spam to find the relevant threads.

I agree with you Lorenzo! With the bombardment of spam we got this weekend, I bypassed a new thread because I thought it was spam, as the heading referred to "speakers" and it was a new poster. Turrned out to be legit.

I don't want to leave this site either, as it has gotten me through some very rough times. Glad the administration is actively looking for a resolution.

Administrator Judy Vitucci has responded to our many complaints and is actively working to stop the spam  However, if such efforts are totally unsuccessful, I may chose to stop visiting the messageboards.   The spam is offensive and an insult to the people who post here, legitimately.  If I sense that the administration is helpless to stop it or not taking it seriously, then I will have to cease making this site a priority.  I am 6 months post-op and have been aided by the information I receive on this website and it's forums.  I'm only trying to help other AN patients when I can, as best I can  However, I realize the message boards will survive with or without my input.

Wading through porn links and other such garbage is hardly my idea of making good use of my limited 'internet time'.  Yet, I get the impression that the administrator is sincerely trying to fix the spam problem, so I doubt  I'll have to abandon my visits to this website anytime soon.  I appreciate the fact that, apparently, very few others are as annoyed as I am by the constant spam, but I happen to have a different opinion on the matter and must act accordingly.

I really really liked tghis site too! But not because it was a "SERIOUS" site, but because of all the wonderful people on here who in addition to being there with a compassionate shoulder, and great words of advise, There was also a sense of community and humor which is probably the best medicine of all. Unfortunately, in addition to all the SPan and porn we have been seeing, the admin plans to take away ALL the Humor and make this Strickly Serious AN Info ONLY site./ No fun or humor alloweded.
Therefore, I too will most likely quit posting here and have already backed off quite a bit since I caught wind of this news. If we can't be helpful to one another in other ways besides stricktly posting the facts and nothing but the facts, with no personalities allowed, then I'm outa here.  Complaining about the spam/porn is one thing, but apparently there have been complaints about the fun and slap stick humor on a few of the threads. For me, I need to go where I can learn about my condition and also get some relief. laughter is the best medicine.

I  just posted a post saying (in a nutshell) we need humour to boost our immune systems and keep us going along with the info and support. (teh it got lost in space) so here's my new version.

Others do it so why not here?

Hope the spam is blocked ... it's rude, crude, and unnecessary...

About ANs and humour, well, I find it so hard to talk to anybody corporeal about this AN around where I live, that message boards are a good outlet for chats, exchanges of info, some fun, support and advice. And humour is part of all that! It would be a very sad day, and a very dull board if humour was verboten.

Without it, who's getting through any of the AN stuff? How are they going to do that? Wow. From one extreme to the other if that happens. In that case, I'll be gone again. Shame, was having fun and finding some really interesting info.

Ciao, keep up the good spirits and share the laughs.

I've heard that Dec 15th is the day  they will delete a whole list of threads. Anything off AN topic.  We have asked for a seperate section for off topic, or humor  so people who aren't interested in joining in on a laugh once in a while, they can just not go into that section.  Guess we will find out in a few days what is to be.

I would like to see a confirmation - before December 15th - that the Administrator intends to remove and then ban all 'humor' (a subjective term, at best) threads from the AN messageboards.  That doesn't make much sense to me.  Someone posts spam/porno links on the messagebaord and the response is to ban all humor?  How does that solve the problem?  How can you know just by the thread title that it's 'serious'?

Should this sledghammer approach to the current spam dilemma actually occur, I'll be avoiding this website and it's forums in the future.  Banning all but alleged 'serious' posts would be a ridiculously lame response to the very real problem of porn spam infiltrating the board.  It would also be very difficult to enforce.  I trust it's only a rumor - and I hope it doesn't happen.  I like this site and would hate to see it so over-regulated that it becomes dry and boring.  :(

Not a rumor.  Saw the note from Judy V regarding wanting to limit "personal" conversations.

If having an AN is not a "personal" experience, what is.  We need to be able to express how this is affecting us "personally".  That expression, serious or humorous, is necessary venting and draws support from others who are or have been in the same place.  If it were not for the "personal" touch of this forum, I would not frequent it like I do.

Getting rid of the spm is necessary.  Getting rid of the forum? :-*

That would be a really sad day, and probably the end of this forum for a lot of us. Admin? Don't do it! Surely they must realise that humour is part of the recovery and coping process, no?  ???

m,
Unfortunately the note that Gennysmom refers to was prior to this last week or so wave of heavy spam. So It seems the decidion to change the content of the posting to stictly sesrious AN topics was discussed among admin prior to the worst or ths spam. Possibly seperate issues.
