Meningitis vax?
« on: July 12, 2006, 10:22:10 am »
My neurosurgeon has recommended getting a menginitis vaccine before surgery.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Has anyone done it?  I'm off to research online, but wanted personal experiences too.

Thanks!

Hi Katie-
I had my surgery (both times) at MGH, second time with Barker.  The care was outstanding.  It was recommended to me also to have the injection, which I did.  Glad I did as I did have a CSF leak and the injection probably reduced the chance of infection.  Did not have any negative side effects from the shot.
Hope this helps-

I didn't have a vaccination and did have a csf leak but no other problems from the leak.  I did have the leak for about 2 months (was in denial).  I think if it was offered to me, I would have taken it.
