Nancy~
Hey!  I never drove myself home, but I kind of think I maybe could have if I had waited long enough...kind of like when you get a tooth filled and then you wait to make sure all the gas has cleared??  Who knows?  I'm not very good with all this medical stuff!!

Hi Nancy, I could have but I brought my husband with me when they removed the gold weight. In fact he sat in the room while they did the surgery, took about 25 minutes max. Afterwards everything was fine, only a few stiches. In fact I am having a piece of jewelry made from the gold weight. It will be an "original"!!
4+cmm left retromastoid of cerebellopontine angle tumor removed 6/5/06; Dr. Eric Gabriel, St. Vincents, Jacksonville, FL
Left ear hearing loss, left eye gold weight, facial paralysis; 48 year old female. Dr. Khuddas - my hero - corrected my double vision

Nancy -

although you may feel able to drive yourself home, the medical personnel, the doctor and/or the nurses may advise you not to.

Prior to my BAHA surgery, when the hospital contacted me for all the pre-op questions, I was told that I needed to have someone come to the hospital with me so they could drive me home.  I pointed out that I would be having local anesthesia and asked if it was acceptable to drive myself.  I was told no.

I have no idea if it was hospital policy, a possible liability issue, the doctor's preference, a concern that I might not be able to have local anesthesia and end up with general, or something else.  I would ask the doctor if you can drive yourself.

TP~
I got my gold weigth the other day -- Dr. Byrne says that he thinks that it would make a cool drop like it is -- the other doc (that we never caught his name but like him a LOT - Nancy, maybe you know?  Glasses, young-looking, VERY nice) thinks I should go for a grill for my teeth!!    ;D
I haven't decided yet -- I don't wear much gold so it will probably just sit for now!

Thanks for the responses everyone - I appreciate it !
Kay - the fellow's name is Dr. Haack - he took out my sutures/staples because Dr. Byrne had
left out of town the day after my surgery, so Dr. Haack took care of me.

no offense, but I just can't imagine you with a grill on your teeth!   ;D

And as for the young-looking, VERY nice doctor - did you get a picture? did you ask him if he was single?
I know you are married, but not all of us are LOL

I did not ask if he was single but the office staff there are my new best friends so I could call them if you want me to.  Maybe Nancy knows...but I think she might have scooped him up for herself! He looked REALLY young...Dr. Byrne looks young and he looks even younger.  I know if this HOT actor that you would have a LOT in  common with...what is his name???  ???   Let me think about that...

I was only half serious.  I'm not ready to get back on that rollercoaster just yet! I only ended my very bad almost 22 year marriage about 18 months ago and am thoroughly enjoying my freedom and just starting to get back on my feet financially.

Besides if your doc IS really young, chances are he's too young for me - I'm no spring chicken.  Plus I do come with baggage - in addition to 12 year old twins - I have had brain surgery you know LOL
