Still waiting
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:46:22 am »
HI Everyone...
Well, I was suppose to go see my ENT today to get the results of my MRI after waiting a month to see him. The Office called and cancelled the appt., and now I have to wait until the 12th to see him now. Do I now have good reason to start screaming? What a crazy thing to have to wait this long for my results!

Hi Ingy,

Are you waiting for diagnosis of an acoustic neuroma or are you waiting for your results one year after treatment?  Either way it is frustrating.....sigh!  Hurry up and wait is the motto I learned when dealing with my acoustic neuroma.

With my diagnosis right from the get go I had to learn patience.  The ENT that ordered my first MRI took one week to get back to me (pretty par for the course).  Making the first interview with a neurotologist took 3 weeks before we saw one another (par for the course?)  After realising this tumor is sllllloooowww growing we made appointment to speak to other doctors.  When I finally made my decision (three months later) and scheduled for surgery (two weeks prior) I get the phone call asking if I could put off surgery as the one neurosurgeon wanted to take a vacation with his wife as she too is a medical professional and any time they get together is hard to come by.  So more waiting which I preferred as I felt one of the surgeons would be well rested.  It's always hurry up and wait!  At my one year post surgery MRI,  I had a very long wait from my neurosurgeon to call me back with results.  I got tired after 4 weeks not hearing from him I emailed him.  He responded with anger and said he was passing this on to the other neurotologist--nice doctor, very professional.  I waited another 2 weeks before I got a phone call with the results.  Six weeks is a bit much to wait for results.  Perhaps the hospital I had my procedure at should not be accepting new neuro patients as the ones they have now keep them too busy?!

Anyway, I learned patience, maybe SOME doctors should do the same?

Without getting into a long drawn explanation, you can just catch up with my situation by reading my other posts... if you're interested.  I am waiting for my initial MRI results. I did get the results from my GP (positive AN left ear as well as a tumor in my left sinus) that's all I know. My specialist is the one who needs to confirm.

anyway, patience does seem to be the rule when dealing with doctors
Have a great day

Hey Ingy...
I can unfortunately believe it...so sorry, but at least you have some clarification from your GP....I was wondering where you had been....no post on either board.....
Anyways....please keep us updated and let us know what the specialist says....if it is indeed an AN plus additional growth it is still probably a benign growth and treated the same either way..try and take some comfort....
Keep us posted and your head up

Hi Ceeceek,

I am sorry I have been a stranger, but all I have been doing is waiting. I am also very busy with school and studying up for four exams. That definitely keeps my mind occupied. I have 1 1/2 weeks left of school.
Lately, I have been suffering with very bad earaches, eye twitches, face pain and nose bleeds.  Makes it very difficult to concentrate.
I am calm now and realize that this just has to be dealt with. I am prepared but still scared of what will be after the surgery. It is what it is and there is not much I can do about it.
Funny, the AN has become secondary to my sinus problem. A loss in hearing is a small price to pay when faced with something darker. Cancer in the sinus is a greater risk. My GP doesn't think the AN and sinus tumor are related. I am facing two different problems. The sinus tumor is large. 2.5 cm. They will not know if it is malignant/benign until it comes out.
I guess in the end, I will be a stronger person...right? :-\

Well, you sound like you are in a similar prediciment as me....mine is pressing on my estachian tube..very unconfortable so I can really sympathize with the ear ache sinus problem,,and although the Dr does not seem to think they are related chances are they are, and either way, you are having the surgery correct? so it will be all done with,,,and know if they cannot get all of it due to location..(my issue, perhaps, will know after surgery) that Cyberknife and or gamma are good options for follow up treatment, so no matter what it is, it can be dealt with....I too am in school which is a great way to conentrate on other things..what are you in school for? me, going for my BS degree in marketing..hoping to use this happy little experience to work for me working for a pharm company or medical equip company....keeping fingers crossed...
Hang in there and keep in touch..thats an order...lol

Ingie,
Your doctor is the best person to go over the MRI with.  But you can probably get a head start by requesting a copy of the MRI on CD (it has its own display software on the CD), and a copy of the radiology report.  I have heard where the radiologist and the specialist don't always interpret the MRI in the same way, so don't take the radiology report as the final word.
