lubricant
« on: January 03, 2011, 08:24:41 pm »
Hi guys,
I have lots of complications afer my Nov. 30 surgery. One is rt sided paralysis with eye not closing completely.  I put lots of goop for the night.  My question is how to clean it up in the morning without loosing/irritataing my eye?  do I use water and gentle soap or just wipe it  of with a tissue?

Flier~
I don't ever really "clean it up" per say - I am always wiping the excess from underneath my eye where it has run and I make sure & wipe my eyelid good before I put make-up on that eye but I don't really do anything special.  I just put it in once before I go to bed so there is not just a TON in the morning - usually on my pillowcase!  When I am in the shower each morning, I do wash my face and get under that eye good but that is about it.  Sometimes it gets a little red - I figure I might get some soap or shampoo in it (I have no feeling), but then I put more Refresh PM in and it gets all better.

I know that Lori and some others have mentioned "cleaning" theirs up in the morning so maybe they can help you more!

Hi there Flier:  I clean my eyelashes at night before I put on my Niteye bubble bandage.  I use an eyelash makeup remover (sensitive type) with a cutip on the eyelashes, then clean with water,  then apply Refresh PM, then the bandage.
In the morning I just wash my face.
Always good thoughts,  Nancy

I rely on ointment 24/7, so I goop the eye up before I go to bed, tape the eye shut with paper tape.
In the morning, I  use some eye drops to kind of gently "flush" out the old stuff, and then put in a thin later of ointment after my shower for the day.
We have such interesting routines, don't we?

I goop up just before my shower in the morning so that the excess has a chance to drip out before I attempt makeup.  I use eye makeup remover (gently with cotton pad) at night followed by goop.  Susan

I usually just wipe my face around the eye with a soft damp cloth, but I also sometimes use OcuSoft lid cleanser (you can find this at most drugstores in the eye drop section.)  I'd be careful using soap around your eye, especially if the lid doesn't close all the way.  If you don't have any sensation in that eye, it would be hard to know if you got soap in it.
