Did SSD Hearing Device help with Tinnitus?
« on: February 07, 2014, 11:52:44 pm »
I came across a thread on this topic from 2010, and was wondering whether BAHA or any other hearing devices had an effect on anyone's post-op tinnitus.

My doctor mentioned that the BAHA might decrease the tinnitus.  I just had my BAHA implant surgery this week and am due for activation at the end of March.  I had tinnitus on my AN side pre-op, and it's definitely more shrill post-op.

I'd love for the BAHA to tone it down a bit, but that would be just a nice perk.

Thanks,
Sam

Medically, probably not.

Anecdotally, maybe.

I find that, when my hearing aids are on and are enhancing conversation with others, my tinnitus is not as noticeable.

But my tinnitus is barely perceptible even at its worst so I'm probably the wrong person to ask.

I wasn't helped with the SSD device.   What was also frustrating is that it didn't help with directionality.   One example is when a police officer wanted to get my attention while stopped at a red light...he kept knocking and knocking on the passenger window and I kept looking to the left side.    It's all very confusing if you always think the sound is coming from the left side when sometimes it is coming from the right.

I have that same problem.

My CROS transmitter is in my right ear (AN side - SSD).

When somebody calls to me from the right I look to the left.

Guess that's just my CROS to bear.

BAHAs have no affect on tinnitus.

If you have tinnitus, it won't go away, lessen, or get worse with a BAHA.

If you don't have tinnitus, a BAHA won't cause it.

Mei Mei,

what device was this?

I have a BAHA, and while it's not perfect with directionality, a situation like this wouldn't have been an issue for me.
