Are my symptoms going away?
« on: February 18, 2007, 12:31:43 pm »
Hi all,

I have not been dx with AN, however my MRI is for March 3. Is it normal for some symptoms to come and go?  I sometimes feel that there is nothing wrong because days go by without any symptoms.
What do you think?

Sorry that you have a problem,
it can be quite confusing for sure
It is quite true that you can have off days - and on days too !
This is why the MRI is so important
Only when the tumour gets quite large ( and sometimes more dangerous ?)
is a problem almost constant (this can take many years)
basically a growing tumour starts to cause compression amongst key nerves
that then react with some strange side effects
So yes get it checked and checked again
Good luck
Tony

Keep your MRI appointment!
Yes like tony said you can have on and off days with syptoms.  It's real easy to ignore treatment on a day you aren't symptomatic.

So please keep your appoitment and let us know how it goes.

Yes, keep your appt! My symptoms come and go all the time. Most days I feel completely normal (well, as normal as I can be anyway) while other days the symptoms are "loud and clear". For your own piece of mind do keep your appointment. Then if the MRI shows nothing it can help to ease your mind!

Best of luck to you

Ingy:

Allow me to echo what the previous posters have stated.

Yes, AN symptoms can 'come and go' from day to day - at least until the tumor grows large enough to start doing some serious nerve damage that doesn't simply 'go away'.  You do not want to get to that point if it can be avoided.

Of course you want to have the scheduled MRI scan and learn whether or not you really have an acoustic neuroma tumor (you may not) and if so, learn what your options are at that point.  Good luck.
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Oh yes, get the MRI.  One can ignore hearing loss and be convinced that it isn't that bad after all.  But AN's can be silently growing and one can feel quite strong and healthy right up to the moment of treatment.  If there is an AN you want to know its present size and position.

  Ingy,

the symptoms can come and go.  Get the MRI.  Sorry to say. My hearing improved alot before my surgery.  I got excited and called the dr. and he said sometimes that will happen.  I guess maybe the tumor shifted to a different spot.  But if its a slow growing tumor, I always wondered how can this sudden movement accure?????

Yeah, it is funny. The fullness has disapated slightly and my hearing is a bit better. I still have pain and the headaches and are still there. Also the diziness has returned...
Oh well, we'll see soon enough.

Yes, my symptoms come and go also.  Some days I literally think is this "all in my head"?  Sorry for trying to be funny because an AN is not funny at all.  But then we do have to find some laughs sometimes.  Wishing the best to all who leave their comments on this board.  If we didn't care, or if we weren't concerned, we wouldn't be looking here or writing here.  Hang in there, and I will too.  Nancy
