AN AND MIGRAINES
« on: January 02, 2006, 10:19:16 am »
Hi, I'm new to this so any advise and help would be greatly appreciated. I had surgery in July for my AN and the surgery was unsuccessful. I had been in the operation room for about 4-1/2 hrs and the surgery had to be stopped. Most of that time I was told was positioning me properly. Anyway, as the drilling started the blodd vessels in my head started to coagulate and caused a migraine at the same time which intern then the brain swelled soo much and blood started to flow and the procedure needed to be stopped. If the surgery was continued the surgeon said I could of lost my life and or been paralyzed in some form for the rest of my life. They had a hard time also getting to the tumor and seeing exactly where and what it was affecting. I have had multiple MRI's and CT Scans and this never showed before. In Feb, 2005 is when the AN was discovered. Another MRI was taken approximately 2-1/2 wks later and showed no growth. Then in Nov, 2005 I had another MRI done and there is growth. So of course there is concern. I do have other health issues which become a factor in any procedure I go through. I am still researching for an alternative way to resume taking care of this issue. And gain advise possibly from other doctors in hopes they might of seen or heard of an occurrance similar to mine. It has some doctors baffled and have never seen this happen before. If any one knows of this odd issue and can help in directing me to help or have any advice, it would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you - BEGONE

Begone, where did you have your surgery? You need to ensure that you consult with a neurosurgeon who is very experienced and has his or her subspeciality in AN surgery.

Thank you all who replied. I have been busy rounding up my medical records and scans I've taken. Went to go see the ear specialist today and discuss options. Both the neurosurgeon and ear specialist are one of the best teams here in Illinois in the field. They do all the surgeries and other relative procedures together. I had my surgery done in Hinsdale Hospital in Illinois. Each time we discuss this issue of mine, they have said in all the years they have done this surgery nothing like my occurrance has happened. The Neurosurgeon also travels to surrounding states to do this procedure. This is his main specialty. Right now I will be taking another MRI sometime in Feb. and if the tumor is showing additional growth then I have to make a move. This is supposed to be a SLOW growing tumor from what I'm told and have read, but it seems mine isn't going the way the books tell. They also are suggesting I do the Gamma Knife-I am still not comfortable with that either. There are multiple issues with that too I have to watch out for with the migraine issue. Again thank you for the information you have sent and I will definately check into them.
