Anne Marie ~

I know this has been a struggle for you and your husband but you did what you could.  Your late father-in-law is now in God's hands.  Please accept my condolences for your loss.

Jim

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I will be praying for peace and strength for you and your family during this difficult time.  My MIL passed away just months before my son's wedding, making his special day a bittersweet time.  We all missed her so much, and still drink a toast to her at every family gathering.

Thank you for all of your support.  In a few short hours the mass will be said and he will be laid to rest.  It has been a very long weekend for us.  We have lost track of the day and date.

I am doing the second reading, one that is so very special to me.  St Paul 1st Corinthians Chapter 13, verse 1-13.  This was read at my wedding and at my Father's funeral so it has a very deep meaning in my life.  I know first hand love does "endure all"

Anne Marie and Louie,

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I, too had a difficult relationship with my own mother.  Years later I still work on understanding and forgiving--hope it will come to you as well.

Peace,

Anne Marie

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the bible, specifically the Apostle Paul's first letter to the Christian church located in the Grecian city of Corinth - known today as the book of First Corinthians - this is the text (chapter 13, verses 1-13) Ann Marie refers to (New International version):

1. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

 4. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8. Love never fails.  But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10. but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.  When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.  12. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

These words are as eloquent and meaningful today as when they were written, over 2,000 years ago.

Thanks, Jim.

I am one of the unfamiliar and appreciate you posting this.

I've heard these verses before; just didn't realize they were First Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 1-13.
