WE SETTLED ON AN AREA AND ARE BUILDING A HOUSE!!!

After 3 days of INTENSE house hunting, we finally settled on SP on the 4th day and are building a house - definitely big enough for LOTS of company, a guest room and 2 water parks with 50 guests passes a year!!  Come one, come all!!  It is west and north of downtown (not NW b/c it is more WEST) and is one of the MASTER PLANNED COMMUNITIES.  The house will be started about the middle of June and should be finished the 1st or 2nd week in September.  The girlies will go ahead & start school there so they won't have to change after a few weeks.  We will go at the end of June/1st of July and stay with Dave's family until the house is complete.  Grandma & Grandad (well, I KNOW Grandma) WANT us to stay with them for a while - I doubt they will still have that attitude after a couple of months!!  If you want to see pics, I have a few that I can email you or there's one on FB if you are interested...don't have the time or energy to do all the stuff to get them up here!  We are fine with the time frame b/c that will give us time to sell this house - please say a few prayers for us on that front!!  After looking at TONS of houses - resale and new - we see what a great house & HUGE yard we have here so hope that is good!!

Yea and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Should be an interesting summer! Best of luck, lots of patience with the house being built, and plant St. Joseph in the front of your house-I think he goes face down , facing the house (?- catholic tradtion that really does work. The house WILL sell- just maybe not when you want it to but it will!!!!!!)

Too bad you were still teaching last week - we could have used you during all that looking!!  We would have had so much fun!  My cousin (who just moved to Bay City from living her whole life in a little town around here) went with us one day - we laughed and laughed.  One lady asked Dave what was bringing us there and he said work, to which she replied, "Oh, what do you do?"  Serious as can be, Dave said, "I make and sell meth...all the elementary schools know me so I have to move..."  I couldn't believe he said that - it was sooooo funny!

Kay .....

Dave is hilarious!  So glad you have decided to build ..... we had a blast doing ours almost 20 years ago now ...... but be prepared to go way over your allotments for various things, like lighting, floor finishing, etc.  I'd love to do it again ..... but do not relish the thought of getting rid of almost 20 years worth of accumulation!

Keep us posted (and pictured) on all of the developments as they unfold!

Clarice~
The good (or not so good - however you want to look at it) is that the price is TOTALLY set!!  The price we got Friday is exactly what we will pay.  The one drawback is that while you get to pick a LOT of stuff, you have to stick with some of their guidelines.  That is OK with us.  Probably the one thing I didn't get to do was change anything outside because this house was already slated to be built and the outside (bricks, elevation, etc) had alrady been approved by the community.  I probably would've picked a redish brick but then Dave said he didn't love red - guess it was good that was alrady picked for me!!  ;)  I love the elevation - it has the Austin stone around the door - I am a cheapie so I don't know if I would have sprung for that!!  :D  PM your email if you want me to send you a pic!!  The model looks almost exactly like ours will...ours will just have one more gable...

If anyone gets those Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons and throws them away - could you please send them my way??  I can use TONS getting all the stuff for a new house!  My plan is to get a little stuff here and there to spead out all the costs...

Thanks!

Congrats on deciding to build! 2 things--argon filled windows and sprayed in Icynene insulation.  Will save you a lot of energy bills and is eco-friendly.

Capt'n~
I don't know exactly what everything is, I just know that it is all energy efficient and has the highest star rating!  Part of the reason why we are building is because of the decrease in bills!

I got confused (that silly stroke) - we are a bit south of downtown, NOT North!!

Kay -

thanks for sending me the pics.  Beautiful house - and I envy you the porch, as I've always wanted one.

Dave's comment cracked me up.  Does he have a single brother?? LOL

Starting setting the forms to pour the foundation!  We are leaving for Houston on the 1st - can't believe it is here!  Had a couple of going away parties this week and then one more on the 27th - makes things sink in a little more.  We will go this week and get 2 of the girlies from camp in Missouri, get home on the 26th, Open House & party on 27th, Addi leaves for Mystery Trip on the 28th, Addi returns evening of 30th and we leave morning of 1st!  Busy few days and LOTS of time in the car!

House here still hasn't sold - please say a few prayers for us - I REALLY would like to be able to keep the one we are building!!

Kay .....

Sounds like you will need to get plenty of vitamins and rest in between all of the flurry of activities this next week.  All kinds of emotions going on, I'm sure.

Love and lots of prayers!

Wow, what an emotional and physical roller coaster you are on right now! DO take extra vitamins as  Clarice suggested. Vit C, echinacea, whatever it takes.
I'll say an prayer to St. Joseph to get the house sold, but he doesn't always cooperate!
