Lori and Jan: You guys ROCK!
« on: April 20, 2009, 05:04:46 pm »
I got my "BAHA" recovery kit today! How thoughtful! I appreciate it sooo much. I looks like I have everything I need to get my recovery off to a great start.
Thanks too, for all the support and information. I'm sure I will have even more questions AFTER surgery.

I'm really not nervous at all, and that is because you guys shared your stories so I feel I know what to expect. I really feel that you can learn more from a patient sometimes than your Doctor.

I am a little concerned about my hair. It is a little longer than shoulder length, but layered. I'm afraid I might have a gap of missing hair above my shoulder. Oh, well , maybe it will be okay.

Thanks again so much for your kindness!

Lisa -

glad you liked the kit - they're fun to create; and even more fun to gift away.

Don't worry about your hair.  Mine was pretty darn short when I had my BAHA surgery and my hair covered the site - and the bandage - very nicely.  You shouldn't have any problem.

I talked to Mike last night and he is so excited to have surgery tomorrow I'm wondering if he'll get any sleep tonight.  He's going to give you a real run for your money in that processor race you agreed to  :D

Don't hesitate to ask questions after surgery.  We're all here to help each other and someone with a BAHA will know the answer.

Good luck on Wednesday,

Jan

Thanks for the compliment, Kay.

It's days like this that I wish I were still young, sweet and innocent - it was definitely a tough one involving not only my mother's back surgery but the very unexpected death of one of our beloved cats when I finally got home from the hospital  :o

Let's just say if I lived anywhere near Lisa, I'd be knocking on her door and begging her to share the Hershey's kisses from her BAHA recovery kit  ;)

Sorry for the hijack, Lisa.

Lisa,

Glad you got your "kit".  I've been so far behind on reading posts so I'm  just getting to this one now.

Can't wait to hear how the surgery went.

Oh, and my hair was about shoulder length when I had my implant put in - they really don't remove a whole lot of hair so it wasn't noticable at all.  I'm sure your temporary lack of hair will be well hidden.

And would you look at that Jan - we are sweet - no matter what anyone says!   ;D

Amen, sister.

Seems like some just don't appreciate us.

Oh well, you can't make everyone happy  :P

Sefra,

As the first recipient of the BAHA Recovery Kit, I absolutely agree that Jan and Lori are the  best.  You'll find that you put it all to very good use and the choclate was especially appreciated by me -- I am a chocoholic!!  Since your hair is about mid-length and layered, the small missing patch shouldn't be that noticablable -- mine pretty much blended in.  I won't  say it was completely unnoticable, but the wonderful thing about hair is that it grows back.

Wishing you the best

Jan -- I hope your mom is doing okay and that you are too.   I'm so sorry to hear about your cat -- they are like four-legged children. Oscar is 16 years old and still my baby.

Keri -

the BAHA kit is good  ;D  When you are scheduled for your surgery, please drop me or Lori a PM with your mailing address and we'll gladly send you one.

Wendy -

my mom is doing very well - she's now a little past 2 weeks post op and is walking around much better than before her surgery.  Her staples were removed earlier this week and she's feeling much better.  Thanks for asking.

The loss of the cat wasn't easy - the kids' first pet loss and my second (my first was my dog 30+ years ago).  Our youngest cat seems to feel the loss the most; the cat who died was kind of a like a mother to her.  My daughter has been asking for a dog, but we just don't have the lifestyle for one.  I work full-time and the kids are at school - I just don't think it would be fair to a dog to cage it or lock it inside all day long.  So for now we have the two remaining cats - and frankly, that's enough for me - since you know who takes care of the kids' pets in a household  ;)

Thanks, Mike.

Angel was actually the best of our 3 cats.  I miss her a lot, but I'm glad we still have the other 2.

I ordered a little memorial marker for our yard - and a memorial ornament for our Christmas tree - so the kids and I can always remember her.

Hi Jan,
When I first read your post, for some reason I didn't realize that your mom's surgery and the death of your cat just happened. I do hope your mom is better. And I'm sorry about the cat too. That kind of thing is so hard on the kids (mom's too).
My BAHA won't happen for a while (I'm thinking around my 1 yr anniversary of surgery). I'll let you know! Hubby's bank got bought out; insurance may be a factor (changing companies).

sorry for the hijack too!

Lots of fun stuff - but we haven't patented the idea yet, so I'm not sure I can reveal all the items  ;)

Basically things that will help with BAHA recovery - everything from practical stuff to necessities like chocolate.

Anyone with an implant surgery date (are you listening, Pooter?) is eligible.  Just PM your mailing address to Lori or me.
