Symptoms after GK
« on: May 11, 2013, 08:59:16 am »
I had GK May 7 & am 4 days out now. I get the feeling most people breezed right through, went back to work right away, etc. But I've been really tired, kind of foggy headed, and a little queasy at times.. I did have a good bit of swelling around the pin sites...should I be calling the doc? did anyone else feel this way? thanks
Jeanne

According to the Mayo Clinic your post GK symptoms are a common occurrence.

https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gamma-knife-radiosurgery/MY00206/METHOD=print

The pin sores take a couple of weeks to go away. I had that. My scalp was numb for a day or so. I didn't have the other issues.

I don't think there is any urgency but if things persist by Monday call your doctor and report it.

I found a set of post GK discharge instructions that suggest Tylenol or Ibuprofen for headaches and Gravol for nausea:

Other remedies for nausea listed at:

3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

Jeanne,

I marveled at how quickly most folks seemed to rebound and go back to work a few days later.   I experienced fatigue for about two weeks.  I'm doing a bit better (my procedure was April 19), but I still am run down and taking things easily.

You still experienced brain surgery---even if it was non-invasive.   Treat yourself well and go slowly.

I'm sorry to read about the nausea, but I was told that was a possible side effect for a few days.  Eat what you can and drink a lot of water.

Peace,

P.

Some things in my life need to matter less, and other things in my life need to matter more.  So yes, I'm taking this as a "lesson learned experience."

I was foggy headed, and off balance before treatment, went back to work straight away more foggy headed and more off balance.
It wasn't always easy going back to work straight away but I could do it.

I found lots of walking helped. Although its a bit like banging your head against a brick wall at times. It feels better when you stop.
