Supplements that Encourage AN Growth?
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:17:54 pm »
Hi, all,

I have been seeing a functional medicine specialist since this tumor was first diagnosed in August of 2010.  I was only on a few supplements in the first six months, as we were still tracking down all the underlying problems, unrelated to the AN.  The tumor did not grow during that time.  Then I started taking a LOT of supplements, including a type of curcumin that is supposed to be very well absorbed.  I am feeling better in general, but this last MRI showed rapid growth.

I'm wondering whether something I'm taking has actually accelerated the AN's growth.  Maybe if I cut back on supplements, it might stabilize again?  Interestingly, during the first six months, I was on the pill because of peri-menopausal symptoms.  During that time, the neuroma did not grow, but the uterine fibroids quadrupled in size and I had to stop the pill because of it.  My functional MD is now giving me some herbs to shrink the fibroids.  I'm afraid that might be making the neuroma grow even faster.  Sheesh, I'm only trying to get healthy here.  Why does it have to be so complicated?

I'd like to give it more time and experiment with cutting back to just the original supplements, and do some energy healing work, but I'm afraid if I wait too long the surgery will result in long-term complications.

Sometimes, I just need to cry about this.  It is so frustrating and fear-inducing!

I also thought I was doing good by my tumor only to have it take off on a growing spree.  I've spent hours beating myself up about what I did / didn't do that made it so angry that it grew.  One thing I thought of was I had dental x-rays during those growing months but who knows.  Finally, gave up figuring it is what it is.

Not sure if it's related or if it's all in my head (no pun intended), but because of problems with my dental crown in the past few months, I've had to have extra x-rays.  Since then, I've have an increase in my symptoms...type and frequency.  Coincidence...possibly.   :-\

Hi Liz,

Very sorry to hear how everything seems to be working against each other.  I can appreciate your frustration.  Take it one day at a time, it seems to help a little.

Hi, Karen,

I suspect the dental xrays as well.  I had not had any in five years or more, and thought I was doing my health a favor by going to the dentist.  They were already in progress before it occurred to me that xrays might not be such a good idea.  I doubt I will EVER have dental xrays again, as I can no longer justify them.

Thanks, Lisa.  Isn't it interesting that three of us have had a similar experience with xrays?  Have you had an MRI since the increase in symptoms?  My balance has gotten worse and my speech discrimination in the affected ear is gone, at least at the volume level of my recent hearing test.  A year ago, I only had a mild hearing loss.  I assumed the increase in symptoms was just from prolonged pressure on the nerves, but apparently I was wrong.

There is so much we just don't know.  I wish there were more studies.

Thank you, Chances3.  I am struggling with staying in the present, but that is exactly what I need to do.  I just recently let go of a traumatic past.  Now I am worrying about the future.  I have to giggle at myself a little, as I seem to need something to be upset about.  When I get back to my daily meditation, I am likely to feel much better.  For now, I just try to use my anxiety as a reminder to stay connected to the forces of love in the universe.

Love to all of you,
Liz
