clamp?

OK I think I'm fine and then I read one word and feel uneasy. Today that word was clamp. More precise head clamp. What in the world is this? I'm probably going to find out tomorrow at my pre-op, but I have read a lot and some how this slipped by me.  ???

A clamp is used to hold your head immobile during the procedure. It is usually a Mayfield 3-pin clamp that is affixed to the sides of your head and to the operating table. You'll never know about it as it is applied following anesthesia, and then removed immediately after the operation before you are awake again.

Found out at pre-op and meetings with doctors that they don't use a clamp. YAY
