Red eye

Has anyone else had a problem with their eye bein red?  I'm putting an antibiotic ointment in my eye at night and Liquigel during the day.  The past couple of days my eye has gotten red and doesn't really go away.

Make sure there is nothing in it... without tears, its hard to clear the eye from hairs and stuff, more that once, I've had very irritated eyes.. only to look closely in the mirror and see a little hair in there .. I take it out and all is well again ......... I learned for example to close my eyes when I shave.. (electric), and to avoid dusty areas...

Hi Jeanlea: 
    After 6&1/2 months my eye is still very red and sometimes more irritated than others.  My Opt. said it was due to the dryness.  I still use gels and ointments.  At the moment it is very dry, as I also have sinus problems this time of year.  I have also noticed I get styes alot, in both eyes at the moment.  I'm wondering if it's because I am frequently rubbing them? I have been wearing my contacts off and on, which I was told not to do, and my eye dries out more when I do.
     "Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are"gearing" up for Christmas!  My students were bugging me all day yesterday about Christmas, I told them  they couldn't say anything about Christmas until next Monday!  Take Care, luv2teachsped

Just a thought, but do you get cold sores on your lips on occassion?  If you do, has your doctor been looking at these styes?

I have had this problem since my surgery (12/00).  I have no tears and no feeling.  I see a cornea specialist to maintain the integrity of the cornea.  It is always a problem and will always require maintainence.  He just inserted tear duct plugs so my drops don't drain.  Its worth a try.  I use Refresh Liguigel (1% methylcellulose) for moderate to severe dry eye.  It blurs my vision but keeps my eye moist.  At night the drops around my eyelids dry out and it actually seals my eye shut so dryness and exposure is not a problem.  The oils (lacrilube) would not seal my eye shut and protect it.  I just rinse my face in the morning and my eye opens.  From my experience, when the eye gets very red and your vision can't be fixed by drops, you have to go the opthalmologist to have the cornea looked at and get it treated if it has an infection or a scratched cornea.
