Quick update
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:14:42 am »
Just wanted to let you all know the good news that my new HB score is 3! The docs seem pretty impressed considering I'm not yet a year out from surgery and my nerve was so frayed it didn't respond to any stimualtion at the end of surgery. I saw a doc who specializes in face stuff and he recommended facial PT, plus some botox and some lip filler to even things out.

It's sad to think that my face will never be the same, but this is probably the best case scenario for me at this point (at least as far as the face is concerned), so I'll take it!

Great news! Also remember that at less than a year out you may still see quite a bit more improvement. I'm just over two years post-op following a microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm, and I have seen improvement in my smile over the last month.

Congrats, Nikki.  And, as Sarah said, a year is pretty early in the nerve healing process.  I'm over 2 years and am still seeing improvements.  Have faith!

Nikki ~

Thanks for the positive update!  May your facial nerve healing continue, unimpeded. :)

Hi Nikki,
Been thinking about you recently and so glad to hear your face is improving. Like everyone else said, keep the faith :) Continued movement will most likely happen, especially with the PT therapy.
Hope things are OK at work, and that you are handling it.

Sara-didn't know about your microvascular decompression, yet glad to hear you have seen improvement in your smile ;D I have one more month until I hope to see my left lip/cheek/mouth move.

Thanks everyone! I need to post some pictures soon!

And I didn't mean to make it sound like I was giving up. All the progress you guys have had years down the line gives me hope that (especially with my 'young nerves') things will continue to improve, but I know my face will never be 'the same'. It's that stupid synkinesis! I used to smile like  ;D but now it's more like  ;), haha!
