BI-CROS and RF interference

Hi - Just dropped back into these AN boards after years away -- my AN was removed 15 years ago. I'm on my fourth pair of hearing aids, the third BI-CROS. This was originally a pair connected by a wire behind the head, but was adapted to wireless two years ago. I like the convenience, but the static is driving me crazy. There must be many, many more RF based devices out in the world today than there used to be. Anyway, now these are cutting out here and there, and one of my earmolds broke the other day so I'm going to see the audiologist next week, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a better technology than RF wireless. (I'm wearing Phonak BI-CROS.) I think I need Bluetooth hearing aids, but no one makes them yet. I read a bit here about Starkey Transcranial, but I can't find it on their website. Btw, very nice to be back in the AN community again, although times sure have changed.

Hi oldewoman and welcome:

The newest hearing device of interest on the forum is the TransEar.  It is a bone conduction aid without surgery.  Do a search for TransEar on here and you will find the posts of three women that have/or are in the process of getting one.

Does the anxiety of regrowth pass with time?  The time between getting my yearly MRI and getting the letter saying it is clear is the worst time of the year for me.  On the upside, that is how I ended up on the forum last May.  Stressing about how often people have regrowth.

ps:  I think the Sharkey Destiny works much like the TransEar.  There is a user by the name of TransEarXpert.  He works for TransEar and on one of his posts he explains the difference.  You can find that post on page 1 of the archives in the thread started by Boppie.

Thanks, Kathy. I'm 54; I haven't figured out how to put my profile in yet.

The Transear won't work for me; the hearing in my good ear needs a boost too, and that big bone behind my deaf ear was removed with the surgery, and I expect I'd need that. But I've been looking into a few other options, and made an appointment today with a new audiologist, which will be in a few weeks.

I almost never think about re-growth or another tumor, and I haven't had an MRI in several years now. My surgeon wasn't much interested in me once the tumor was out, and he's since left the area. I was unusual in that no one actually thought this was an AN until they saw it and got it out, so I didn't have the same kind of treatment and plan that so many others seem to have had, just the surgery and it was gone. I had follow-up MRI's at one year, and five years, and then the surgeon said to have one if my internist suggested it, but he never did.

One of the newbies on here has a phonak system that he says works great.  He's NF2.  They are very pricey 6K and I saw a hearing aid specialist about them but didn't get very far with her.  They are similar to the bicross but much lighter looking.  He can hear on the phone w/ them as that's his job.  Phonak micropower I want to say they're called.  I was told by someone at amplifon hearing aid centers that they have some options similar to the bicross but better.  My audiologist wan't any help I knew more than she did  LOl

I'll check it out, but I sure don't want to spend 6k on hearing aids! And forgive me, but what does NF2 mean?
