Prayers for my sister
« on: July 15, 2010, 04:54:23 am »
Dear Forum friends,

Sometime before the end of this month, my sister (BigSister) will have her next MRI.
I believe it is on the 20th (?) with doc appt. to follow in the first week of August.
She could really use some prayers that everything is the same, no change.
All thoughts and prayers are much appreciated!
----------------
She had some other health issues last fall, and now is better from that.
What a blessing that she is active, working and taking care of herself.

For the last several years, she and my older brother have been primary helper/caregivers for my father, who had a stroke 2 years ago.
As others know, it can be more of a strain then anyone cares to admit....
With much sadness, i will tell you all that my dad passed away in late March after failing to recover from another bout of pneumonia.
BUT - please know that my dad was a wonderful husband and father, married to my mom for 63 (!) years, and had 5 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all who he loved very much.  He loved life, could strike up a conversation with almost anyone, and always encouraged us to follow our dreams.
-----------------
Thank you so much for being here, helping us learn about ANs, and supporting us when we needed it the most.

Sincerely,
Sue

Sue ~

My condolences on the loss of your father.  Its obvious that you loved him very much and that you'll always treasure your memories of your dad.  Your big sister will be in my prayers as she faces her upcoming MRI.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Debbi, Mickey, Clarice, Jackie, Jim,

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
My sister could use an unchanged MRI - that would be really great.

Yes, we are very, very fortunate children, indeed - our dad was very special and, despite working very hard all his life (starting on a farm and finishing in a factory), he always found time to enjoy family & friends.  He will be greatly missed, but as a friend said, part of him will live on through his family.

Hi Sue,

Keep us posted on your sister's results.   My next MRI is in Oct. and I am lucky that an hour after my MRI, I meet witht he Doctor and receive the results.  So I receive the news good or bad the same day.   Sorry about the passing of your dad.  I too am in the middle of taking care of my elderly parents.  My father is not well and my mother has dementia.  They too have been married 63 years.

Best wishes,

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your reply - i too am anxious to hear the results...
Unlike her, i do the same thing you do - one day and done!  Instant gratification, i know, but it works for me.

Thank you also, for your kind words regarding my dad's passing.  As everyone says, you don't know what it is like until you experience it first-hand.  But, i will also say that my dad always wanted to connect with people and said to one of my brothers, 'Please don't visit me when i am gone...'

I am sure you have many challenges as a caregiver.  My hope is that you have someone to share this with, to lighten the load.  Feel free to contact me anytime if need be.

My thoughts and prayers with you and your parents.

Sincerely,

Sue

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.  Since Sept 2007, my life has been turned upside down.  My brother, of whom I was closed to was dx with a gleoblastoma (CA brain tumor).  He passed away in Oct of 2008.  I then was dx with an AN in March of 08, so 2008 was a terrible year for me.  Since then I still have my AN and take care of my elderly parents.   I am the youngest of 8 children, but their wellbeing is on my shoulders.  How do I get through all of this, I have a great husband, wonderful children, lots of friends and family.  I also work in a nursing home, which humbles me being around the sickest of the sick.  When I have a bad day, I just visit one of my residents whom is 62 with MS and relialize I don't have it so bad.

Take care and keep in touch.

Hi Lisa,

Wow - you have had some not so good times especially starting in 2008 - om gosh...
My very belated condolences losing your brother - i can't begin to imagine...

And most of all, i am VERY humbled by anyone that works in a nursing home.
THANK YOU, for all you do for the residents who need your love and support.

Continued prayers for your elderly parents and strength for you to continue caring for them.
