Exercises?
« on: August 07, 2012, 12:19:35 pm »
Ok, not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but here goes.....

Does anyone have any cardio recommendations for those with balance issues? I tried running and jump rope, neither ended quite well. I still walk daily, but that and the stationary bike have become quite dull. Was trying to mix a few things in, but I am somewhat limited in what I can do.

Thanks,
Jesse

The elliptical machine works for me. Unti my recent fall, I was running (very slowly).  I hope to get back to running in the fall.

Dear Jesse,

I have an elliptical machine in my exercise room. It works for me. I will not use it unless someone is there, as I have balance issues. I prefer my recumbent bike. I also have a small flat screen in the room, for when it gets boring. Exercise but don't fall down!

Kundalini yoga works wonders for the brain, balance, endocrine system, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems... mind, body and soul!  It is a very efficient yoga that anyone can do.  Give it a try!

Go to the stand up paddle boarding thread... it's a few years old, but many pages long and has lots of peoples' ideas.

Thanks for the plug Keri... ;D

Standup is pretty much all I do for exercise. Nice thing is that while your learning falling doesn't hurt.. ::). You complain of walking and stationary bike being dull. I guarantee you won't find it dull.

Treadmill works for me. I have mine parked in front of a TV and VCR. I'll tape a program at night and watch in in the AM during a brisk walk on the treadmill. Zapping commercials gives me about a 45 minute session that goes pretty quick since I'm occupied with a new episode of my favorite TV shows.

My personal favorite is the ARC Trainer at the gym (several people have told me this is what they use a lot on The Biggest Loser) - its like an elliptical but a little different. I've done the elliptical too. Anything that has handles/bars seems to be good. I use the arm part now, but until I got really used to it, I just held on to the rails. I keep the RPM'S up really high & it's an incredible cardio workout!!
