Post-Treatment / 3 Months Post op Middle Fossa
« Last post by dcicala on April 22, 2024, 08:15:41 am »
I had Middle Fossa back in January 2024 for a 1cm tumor that was affecting my balance nerve. Since surgery I had facial paralysis, but that mostly cleared up after about 1 1/2 months. I also have moderate to severe loss of hearing accompanied with sound sensitivity on the tumor side. I pick up high pitch sounds and in crowded areas like restaurants I have to wear an ear plug.  That started 2 months after surgery, and when that started I began to get light headed and dizzy again and severe headaches. They have me on a second course of steroids which has helped with the headaches, but nothing with the hearing still. Has anybody else experienced this and do you have any recommendations for the sound sensitivity? Any input would help, thank you.

Inquiries / Re: Tumor increase

Thank you. My doctors seem to think the size increase is more than swelling. I have another MRI in 6 months. The tumor is touching the brainand brain stem now.

Hi it is in the webinar library. If you look at my posts you may find a link or maybe ask Admin? For me it was very useful a few years ago...

Inquiries / Re: Choosing/Interviewing Radiologists

Thank you, v357139! I'll look again at the list, I didn't think they were separated by professionals. When I met w/Dr. Barker he said I could go either surgery or radiation therapy. From our discussion, it sounded like radiotherapy would be best for me so I started asking about what type/what would that mean, etc. and he told me I'd have to talk to a radiation oncologist about options. (Honestly, I found him pretty cold and unhelpful.) He did refer me to Dr. Shih at MGH, but I can't get in to see her until June. I'm hoping to talk to some more specialists so that I feel more educated by the time I get to her.

Todd,
I still have the head fullness you've described. Initially I noticed a feeling of fullness in the ear.  I had gamma knife in August 2022.  The head fullness did not improve.  I've tried Dramamine for the nausea.  I have allergies and I noticed the head fullness is worse when allergies are bothering me. Sometimes Claritin seems to help with the head fullness.

Hi Berta.  The ANA site does have a list of medical professionals.  See if you can find it.  Let me know if not, and I'll try to locate it for you.  Good idea for you to ask on this site.  Hopefully someone from up there will give you some local names.  I can tell you that Dr Kondziolka in NYC is well known for Gamma Knife.  He's at NYU.  Some doctors will let you send them your MRI and do a phone consult.  Did Dr Barker say he would do the radiosurgery, or did he give you a name?  For second or third opinions (I got like eight :), you don't generally go through the first one you spoke to.

Again, let me know if you can't find the list on ANA and I'll try to locate it for you.  Let me know how it goes.  All the best.

Post-Treatment / Follow Up MRI
« Last post by v357139 on April 19, 2024, 06:46:15 pm »
Hi all.  Passed my 13th year surgery anniversary a while back.  Wow has it really been 13 years already?   Dr Schwartz and Dr Slattery had left in just a bit of tumor to protect the facial nerve.   Just got results of my most recent follow up MRI.  No sign of regrowth.  No sign of tumor at all!!!  Man how I stressed on this pre-surgery.  I was a wreck, and that is not an exageration.  It is probably an understatement.

For all those who are stressing.  I know how you feel.  You will get through this.  I was worse than you.  If I did it, you can too.

Anyone stressing feel free to email me.  I'd be glad to listen.  I also did a boat load of research and would be glad to share.

Stress can cause lots of problems.  I also agree the more sleep you can get, the better.  After my surgery I slept quite alot.  I think it helped.

I flew after surgery from LA back to NYC.  No pain or anything.  I did wear compression socks.  And I got up and walked several times to keep my circulation going.
