Question

I had AN removed in right ear 10 years ago.  Am now experiencing "fullness" in left ear.  Has anyone experienced a recurrence in the opposite ear?

Jules,

Hopefully it is an infection. I had fullness in my "good ear", went to the GP who spotted an infection. This went away over a few weeks. Lets hope that thats your issue as well.

Jules, only your ENT will be able to determine.. hoping it's just a sinus infection or such from winter.... please keep us posted and sending good wishes/thoughts on that is all it is.

Just a quick update.  I saw my ENT and he said everything checked out okay.  It was very scary and your support was invaluable.  Thank you!

The ENT performed several tests that checked for fluid in the eustacian tube as well as tests that checked the eardrum.  Because of my history he then conducted a complete hearing exam (which came back completely normal).  WHEW!

He told me my jaw clenching (which began shortly after I lost my dog) is causing TMJ-type symptoms and gave me information on that, which was invaluable and has helped me alleviate the symptoms.  The problem now is the clenching is causing weakness on my right side to return (I was left with some weakness, synkinesis and no hearing on the right side).  However, I find when I engage in relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, long hot baths, etc., the muscles return to "normal."

Glad to "hear" the good new, Jules.  All of us with SSD should be really attentive when anything goes on with the "good ear."  I'vve noticed that I'm having a hard time hearing dialog on the TV unless it's turned up so loud, Dr. Love has to leave the room!  We can't watch TV in the same room anymore at all.  He wants me to turn it down so he can stand it, but I can't hear it. I tell him to get earplugs. I'm right, right?  Guess I need to make an appt w/ the ENT. (weren't they the talking trees in Lord of the Rings?)

Deb have dr love get you some wireless headphones to put on while watching tv like they have at the movies..then you can hear tv and completely tune him out   :o

Jules, got me TMJ as well.. have had it for years... use to drive my (ew!) ex-spouse nuts when I grinded my teeth in my sleep.  Hopefully, a mouth-guard will help the cause... I know I got massive headaches from it as well.

Hang tough.. and any form of relaxation/meditation should help the cause! :)
