New here
« on: February 05, 2008, 05:49:48 pm »
Hello,

I'm new here but not new to my AN.  I'm in Canada so the medical system is a bit different.  Takes some time for diagnostic work and surgery is a waiting list issue.  I was diagnosed last March and told that my AN was too small for them to consider surgery or radiation.  I was referred to Dr. Westerberg at St. Paul's in Vancouver.   I'm not much for sitting around doing nothing.  I did a ton of surfing about and came across the study by Banerji et al using Ruta-6 on brain tumors.  Knowing it was a long shot I sent Dr. Banerji an email in Calcutta.  I asked if he'd had any success with AN's and if so what dosage etc.  He actually replied (!) and sent me the dosage to take.  Here's what happened.  I was having a hell of a time with dizziness; to the point I was not sure I could drive to work.  BTW, my hobbies are motorcycling (serious balance requirement) and music (I'm a serious audiophile - you can imagine the joy of losing hearing).  I started taking the Ruta and things got a LOT worse..the dizziness was so bad I could barely walk.  I thought that if it was getting worse that maybe the Ruta was having some effect so I stuck with it.  2 weeks later, the dizziness stopped abruptly and has not returned.  My hearing is not better but no worse either.

My next MRI is in 5 weeks time (one year after the first one).  I know that this could all be wild coincidence and that the balance restoration could be due to the other side taking over 100%, but the bottom line for me is that the symptoms are under control; the MRI will tell the tale either way.  I'm still taking the Ruta and Calc. Phos. as per Dr. Banerji's instructions.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has tried this and their results.

By the way, the cost of this stuff is minimal and Banerji asked me for nothing.

Not affiliated in any way with Dr. Banerji.

Nick,

I have not tried RUTA-6; in fact, this is the first I have heard of it. I sincerely hope that it works for you. I looked it up and it seems to be good stuff. Either way, could you please keep us updated. This is really interesting.

Hi Nick and welcome. I am not personally familiar either with RUTA-6 but did find a good link about it with questions posted by potential users.

I know of some on this site that use homeopathy...... maybe they can chime in to help answer your question.

Again, welcome.

Hi Laz,

Yes I had some nasty stabbing headaches that quit with the other symptoms.  Again, it's hard to know how much can be attributed to the Ruta regimen but I'll stick with it until the MRI results in March.

Thanks to all for the replies, I will keep you posted on developments.

Nick,

Although i am very sceptical about this homeopothy stuff, I have also become very annoyed and angry at some of the conventional medicine approaches as well.

the issue i have with homeopothy is that (cynically) it mixes the herbs and stuff with water, extracts all the 'stuff" so that the water remains in the concept that the water will contain all the nutrients from the herbs and stuff.

the jury is out for me on this one but am happy at the stage  to explore anything that works.

By the way, be careful of any treatment advice that comes through from third world countries (not a racist comment at all) but as an example, a request from a prominent Sri lankan hospital came through to my brother (he is an oncologist) to help them with a diabeties patient that needs stem cell replacement. Well, there is no stem cell replacement treatment for diabeties unless you are a mouse.

regards

Larry

Larry,

No greater skeptic than me.  Honestly, it was more a stubborn refusal to accept that there was nothing that drove me down this path.

Hi from Lily..I am also from B.C. Canada, and new to this site as well.  I was diagnosed June 07, with AN 1.5cmx1.0cm.  Went to see Dr. Westerberg at St Pauls, Vancouver March 08.  I am also on the watch & wait.  Next MRI scheduled for Nov. 08, (one yr's time).  Good to hear of someone else from this part of the world... I have read many posts, and haven't found anyone else.  I was initially concerned that there weren't any specialists in western Canada, but apparently Dr. Westerberg and a team at Vancouver General do these surgeries weekly and have been for 8 yrs or so.  I will be watching for your updates with the Dr.'s in Vancouver.

Hi Lily,

Yes, apparently Dr. W. is the guru on these things.  He seems to be extremely conservative on the treatment side so I'm guessing we'll be in the same boat for a while.
