Sound Direction and hearing aids
« on: December 14, 2015, 05:01:34 pm »
I have a recent sudden hearing loss in my L ear. I have had standard hearing aids for 2 years, but now the doc is recommending "bi-cross"? My question is, can one then tell which direction sound is coming from? I am currently unable to return to work as a nurse unless when someone yells "HELP" I need to know where they are! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I've been SSD for over 5 years and cannot locate the source of any sound. I have a BAHA and wear a hearing aid in my good ear.

I agree with James,, if you are single side deaf ( SSD), from all I have read and my personal experience being SSD for 4 years and a BAHA user with excellent hearing in my good ear,, you will not get much help with directionality from any device. Sorry,,,

I have worn bi-cros hearing aids for 3 1/2 years. About six months ago I upgraded to the Cros II. Many improvements over the previous generation but still not great with directionality.

That being said, how often does anybody yell "help" where you can't quickly figure out where it's coming from?

3/15/18 12mm x 6mm x5mm
9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

If she is in a hallway, she is not going to be able to tell what side of the hall , much less which room, the person is located. That's my experience anyway,,, just my two cents worth,,,,,
