CROS hearing aid
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:11:23 pm »
My doctors said the CROS hearing aid may be a good idea for me.  Does anyone have one?  If so, what is your experience?  Thanks!

Hi DeeDee,

I also lost all of my hearing on my AN side and I have had my CROS (to bear  ::)) since April 2012.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it an 8 for how much it's helped me.

It's not perfect and noisy environments, like restaurants and crowds, are a bit annoying.

Visit Phonak's website and check out all the products and accessories:

http://www.phonak.com/us/b2c/en/products.html

Let me know if you have any questions.

There are other members that use the CROS and will provide their experiences.

You can also use the search feature at the top right hand corner of this page and search CROS and you'll find numerous discussions about it.

DeeDeeR--I echo arizonajack's comments. I became single sided deaf in my right ear one year ago during AN surgery. Got my Cros in February or so and would give it a 7 rating on a scale of 1 to 10. Not so helpful in noisy environments but very nice to have my kids whisper on my deaf side and I can hear them with my good ear. Helpful at work and other semi-quiet environments. Still trying to get used to having the tube things in my ears, though.

TexasSprinter, did you get the MyPilot remote control?

Very versatile.

arizonajack--I don't have the MyPilot but it looks handy. Thanks for the link. Have you ever lost track of yours?  I have 4 small kids, so I would have to take extra precautions to make sure it doesn't disappear.

It's very handy. My first month with my hearing aids drove me crazy having to reach up one side or the other to adjust volume with the little buttons. I thought I was playing Simon Says.

The MyPilot allows your hearing aids to be programed for several scenarios and you can change the programs on the fly with the remote control device.

If you are going to buy the CROS consider buying the MyPilot at the same time. You can often get a serious discount on it with a package deal.

My kids are grown and out and I'm divorced so I'm on my own. I leave my equipment on my desk in the same place all the time. When I use my hearing aids I put the MyPilot and extra batteries in my shirt pocket. I always carry spare batteries. They tend to run out after a couple of days and usually when I'm out and about some place.
