Phonak Cros Cleaning

I noticed my Phonak Cros wasn't working as good in certain environments so I picked up a 40x magnifier and I can see there is ear wax, etc in the ear piece. I used the cleaning brush that comes with it, but I still can't get it all out. Other than going back to the audiologist does anyone who have one of these have any tips on how to get it nice an clean ?

Use the other end of the brush (U shaped metal) to gently pick away at the stubborn spots.

Or a stiff bristle toothbrush.

Clean it more frequently.

When I was fitted with my trial pair I was given "wax traps" and told to replace the old ones when I could no longer hear.  I only had them about 5 weeks and never had to change them, but you might want to look into it...

3/25/13- dx 18x11x14 mm AN, hearing loss in right ear x 5+ years, 5 sessions of CK completed May 2013, now a "post toastie".  Follow up MRI 4/14/14 - 15x19x11 mm. Stable with some signs of necrosis.

I keep a supply of wax traps and domes and change them whenever I clean the hearing aid.

Well, I cleaned it out mostly with the U shaped end of that brush and the volume is actually worse now :( Guess I'll have to go to the audiologist this week. Not sure if I just moved some wax into the wrong spot or I damaged something?  Hopefully it's not the latter...

Something else must be happening.

I've had mine for about a year and a half, clean them and replace the wax traps and domes about every two months and the sound does seem to get better after the cleaning.

Had a similar issue once before and a part had to be replaced. It was still under warranty at the time but any replacement part that may be needed now would be out of pocket. The sound volume was low before but it is clearly lower now after cleaning.. Not sure if that is a coincidence or not but I guess I'll find out early next week when I can do to the DR.

Turns out I needed a new receiver. Cost me $88 but it could have been worse. Although I apparently broke the wax trap while trying to clean it the other day using the "U" shaped end of the cleaning brush.

The wax trap is the little white thing on the tip of the hearing aid. Easily replaced.

The domes (look like badminton shuttlecocks) are made of thin rubber and also easily replaced.

You must have had your Cros (to bear  ;D) for quite a few years to be out of warranty by now.

Still, $88 to fix something that costs several thousand shouldn't be too hard to take.

The warranty was only about 15 months or so. I only paid about $400 for them as insurance took care of the rest so I can't complain. But in the future I'll try to clean them more often. And that way maybe I won't have to use that other end and break the wax trap

Apparently is should be crooked. It's a new design that came out and somehow a crooked piece "improves" it somehow. Although it does seem to feel slightly less comfortable. The Dr said give it a few more days and if I still don't like it they will order and older version with the straight piece
