Ringing is Crazy Loud
« on: May 04, 2013, 07:41:03 pm »
I had tinnitus prior to surgery in November, but it is worse now. As much as I try to ignore the ringing, it is really interferes with my ability to hear. (If it continues to get worse, I am concerned that I won't be able to hear my students in the classroom.) I am going for BAHA eval soon. I had a quick & easy recovery, but for some reason Dr. Haynes likes to wait to do BAHA. I'm hoping the increased hearing (assuming I'll be a good candidate for BAHA) will help mask some of the noise.

There are cheap hearing aids (on amazon) that are simple amplifiers that might work OK in a classroom setting as a stop gap until you get something more sophisticated.

Check out the reviews and the return policies. A lot of stuff on Amazon you can send back for a refund if you don't like the results.

Thanks for the reply. Prior to AN surgery, I did try a hearing aid (a top notch one). Unfortunately it made no noticable difference. I do think that it is not something that is resolvable at this time. Maybe with time, new discoveries will come. I notice that many who get BAHA and Cros seem to have an initial "this is great" moment and then it seems to fizzle out. I have a evaluation coming up and am hopefully that it will have a positive outcome.
