« on: April 14, 2010, 04:17:57 pm »
Hi am resident of New York and was diagnosed with a 1.4 cm AN. After much research and consults have decided on translab surgery.Met with Post/Smouha from mt.sinai and Golfinos/Roland from NYU. Liked them both feel like I would be in good hands with either team. Any info would help in my decision. Thanks

Hi Domrino,
No help with the decision making but wanted to welcome you to the forum anyway :)
I will be happy to answer any other questions though. I too had translab and did well with it. No headaches/cognitive issues post op.
Incision right behind the ear. No one would have guessed I had brain surgery.
Will keep in touch with any other advice. :)

Hi - several other people told me Golfinos/Roland are great - unfortunately, my insurance (CIGNA) won't cover them.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide~

I had my surgery almost 2 years ago with Golfinos/Roland and loved them.  They do a lot of these surgeries, so I felt that I was in excellent hands.  Of course, Post also has an impressive track record.  At the end of the day, either team would do very well for you - I would say pick the one that you feel the most comfortable with.  If it's a tie, maybe take a look at the hospitals and see which feels better to you?

If you have any specific questions about Golfinos/Roland or NYU, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

I'm in Illinois, so what do I know about NY doctors?

Honestly, I've heard more about Drs. Roland & Golfinos on the Forum, but that doesn't mean that Drs. Post & Smouha aren't just as good.

So my advice is, go with your gut.  Do what you feel is right.  It worked well for me in my treatment decision and my doctor decision - and I'm not alone in this.

Good luck,

Jan
