Hi i was just wondering why i was given a three month course of iron too take after my op, i have spoken too other people who were not given iron, i take i lost alot of blood during the op , is this normal???? thanks

Yep, I was ordered to take iron, but can't tolerate the stuff- severe constipation.
I instead ate massive amounts of fried chicken livers, and liverwurst (ugh). Also spinach.
It was slow going but my blood counts improved.
Hope you tolerate the iron.

hi maureen we must all be different in the amount of blood we lose, i also had too take potassium tablets for a while not sure what there for either lol.

I only lost 2 pints of blood during my surgery, I was told. (we're talking 4 cups of blood!)
I didn't have blood donated prior to surgery, and told the anesthesiologist that I didn't want blood transfusion unless I was going to die.
They wanted to transfuse after surgery-  I declined.
I came back on my own .......I'm healthy and relatively young  ::)
You are on potassium, too?
Hmmm... Eat a banana a day!
