Had my 5 month Post Op appointment this morning. Dr Gantz was very pleased with my progress. He was excited about the hearing in my AN ear, too. Said it was right where he would expect it to be. I do have a hearing loss - like 20 db (but not sure if that's 20 total or 20 from where it was before, which was good), but I have a 92% word recognition!
From reading other posts, I know that that is the important part. I did ask the other dr if a hearing aid woudl be of any help to me. She said that with the hearing good in my other ear, many find that the good ear compensates enough for the bad one and feel they get along fine, but if it was something I wanted to look into I would be a good candidate.
So, I have that as an option if I decide to go that route. For now I will just wait and see. Otherwise, all is good. Hooray!

Hi Cathy,
I'm so pleased so read about your progress so far. That's great! I'm so glad you have that good of hearing in your AN ear.
I lost all hearing in my AN ear....but I knew that before going into surgery. I had a translab, but the tumor was wrapped around my middle ear....so he couldn't have saved hearing, no matter what he would have done.
I am 7 months post op now, and doing good.....or at least getting used to being SSD.
Anyway, congratulations!!
Love,
Lacey

Hi Cathy -
Congratulations on having such a great 5 month checkup! I am so happyt for you -- the news about your hearing is fantastic! ;D ;D ;D If you feel you need a hearing aid after a while, then go for it -- I know you, like everyone else wants to hear as well as you can.
Best wishes for continued good healing and health,
Wendy

I would bet that 20 db is the total hearing loss, that is the number they usually bandy about. 20 db is considered within the normal range of variation in the population, I think. Along with 92% WR, you are doing really well. Congratulations!

Cathy,
Sounds like a great checkup! Just think how well you'll be doing at a year if you're already doing so well at 5 months!

Cathy:
Congratulations on your outstanding post-op results! Your hearing retention is excellent and that is always a relief, as well as fairly uncommon. Kudos! :)

I saw this at work (and can't respond - I can lurk but not log-in!). Your results are awesome as far as I have read.
Congrats.
