Today is 6 weeks since my surgery. I saw my surgeons yesterday. The neurotologist does the tumor removal and the "fellow" neurotologist does the open and shut part of surgery. They were very happy over my return of much of my hearing. Gantz, the main neurotologist even hugged me. I am very lucky for a NF2 pt. My audiogram was the same as what it was last Aug. I never expected to end up this good since I was near deaf pre op. It has meant so much to me and I feel very fortunate. I am now 70% word recognition and was 4% in Feb. I can't remember now what the audiologist said the frequencies were exactly but they were improved. I think the higher one was more so than the lower.
Their only explanation for the cause of my immediate post op problem of being out of it and poor response to what was going on was reaction to brain movement, as a scan was done and no bleeding. Scary since I do remember going to x ray but not having the scan even being done.
I am very fortunate that did improve fairly soon and go on to a usual recovery. They said I should improve with the forgetfulness I do have. I don't have to go back for 6 mos and even get to go a year for MRI again. I got a copy of my operative report which is always very interesting.
Now wish my taste would come back right too. Some foods aren't too bad,but many are. I have lost 6# and wish it was more.
This makes me a postie no. 4. Quad postie doesn't sound right so will have to think of a better way to put it. I just really hope that this is it for surgeries!
I am very happy to be as good as I am even with the usual AN after effects that so many of us have. I had so many prayers from so many of you and am sure that helped me so much! Cheryl R

Hi Cheryl,
I know you've had a rough time of it. It's good to "hear" that you're doing better. And extra congratulations on the improved hearing, that happens so seldomly. I suggest that we call you a Quadrapostie, which sounds like some sexy design from Ferrari. :)
Regards,
Rob

thanks for the update. It's amazing that much of your hearing has returned. You must be delighted - and I am delighted for you :)
I like Rob's suggestion of "Quadrapostie". It sounds kind of sleek.

Now Quadrapostie has given me a good laugh as being a plump middle aged grandma doesn't exactly fit the bill. I'll take it though! Hasn't Tony had more surgeries than that too and hopefully he can give us his number and make for a big time postie.

Great news Cheryl!!! I left the hospital after my second surgery just about totally deaf, a month later I had fluid drained from my good / right side and got my hearing back. So I was in the same place you were for a while...........NOT FUN AT ALL. Its good you don't need the cochlear implant, if you did that would make surgery # 5. Darn, now there will be nobody I can pester about cochlear implants........LOL
I will be watching your progress..............from one NF2er to another.

Quadrapostie,
I love to hear about people getting their hearing back. What a great development for you!
Let's see, we have postie, and post-postie, and post-toastie, and quadrapostie. Any others?

Hi, Cheryl:
Slightly belated congratulations on a successful surgery and much improved hearing! I'm very pleased to learn that your hearing has returned to a very usable level. These kinds of success stories are so refreshing. Thanks for sharing yours with us and I hope you enjoy a rapid and total recovery as a 'Quadra-Postie' . :)
