Title: sad news
Post by: Lorenzo on September 30, 2007, 12:14:59 am
hi all,
one of our members here, Windsong, has sadly passed away on Monday 24th, from a long standing non-AN related problem. She was a very good and dear friend of mine and she will be sadly and terribly missed. I thought you should all know – we all lost a great friend.

Dear Lorenzo--I am saddened to hear of the passing of your dear friend Windsong... I am still in my fifties and only take a blood pressure med and have rt neck muscle issues due to surgery but your post made me realize that many of us AN survivors may have many other life-threatening health issues to deal with as well... I can't imagine having other major issues..  My heart truly goes out to those who have multiple health issues as dealing with the AN stuff is enough!! I am thru half of my 30 FSR for a growing AN (supposedly all removed Jan 2001, but it wasn't) 1 cm rt AN and this seems to consume my life right now...  Again, pls accept my deepest sympathy to you and Windsong's family..   Sincerely, Mary from MA

Dear Lorenzo

In reading Windsong's postings one could clearly see her compassion and caring, her vast knowledge of AN issues and her love of life.  Her positive approach to life clearly shine thru her postings.  We were all very lucky to have her as a forum member and you were very lucky and blessed to have her as a good friend .

Windsong's passing is a huge loss for the forum, but especiallly to those that knew her best and were the closest to her.  Lorenzo, I am so sorry.  In the days to come, especially on the hardest days please re read her messages to you and know that her friendship and caring for you remains.

Hugs

Though we may never meet our AN cyber friends in person, when we communicate with them on an almost daily basis they become almost like family members. Actually more than family members because I "talk" to you guys more than I talk to my own family members sometimes! You get me. When one of us passes it is a huge loss for all of us, more so for the ones who've been close on a daily basis.
My heart goes out to Lorenzo and others in Windsong's family.

Lorenzo,

I have talked to Windsong several times on the phone.  She lived less than an hour from me.  We were trying to arrange  a meeting.  She referred me to Dr Rutka because she was astounded at the run around I got from my ENT and Neurosurgeon.   Inara, Windsong sent me pictures of her and her son on Sept 9th.  She was a very beautiful lady inside and out.  I cannot believe she is gone.  She spoke very highly of you.  I know she had some other health issues.  I just sent her a private message last night asking her if she was well.  I noticed she wasn't posting any messages.  My heart is very heavy.  Was her passing unexpected?  I would like to send her son my condolences.  If you have her address please send me a private message.

To the rest of the people on this forum, we have lost a very intelligent and caring lady.  She was very soft spoken, very witty and very compassionate.  I know she is in a better place, but I feel her work here on earth wasn't finished.  Please pray for her son and family.  Loosing a mother at any age is terrible.  I'm talking from experience, I lost my mom at 8 yrs of age.

I will miss you Windsong..........what a beautiful name.  I will always remember you.  Lorenzo, I share your grief.

God Bless you Windsong.

Your friend,
 Anne Marie

Thanks again all. Indeed, she was more than family to me. She was much closer through all this AN business than all of my family members put together. But not just that, she was part of my day, we had so much in common, we shared so much, She WAS family, much more so than the 'real' family. A true friend like I never had before. We do get close when we become cyber friends and the loss is huge to me, as I am sure it is to others.

Lorenzo, This makes me so sad.  Windsong wrote me such beautiful emails in 2005 and 2006.  I am so sorry she is gone.  Her writing was very lyrical and poetic.  I commented on her writing...such a precious and caring person.

I was quite saddened and shocked to hear of the passing of Windsong.    I know it had only been a few days ago that she had posted and mentioned her bad cold.
Not to detract from this event but to really realize how fragile and precious our lifes are,   I got news from a cousin yesterday that a her brothers  48 yr old son had surgery Fri for a recurrent pituitary tumor.    He had an artery rupture during surgery and has been on life support since.  He was to be removed from it today.                   His surgery was at the same major university hospital where I go for treatment.                How scary and  sad this happened and makes one really think about the seriousness of what we have been through.          I was not close to the cousin and son but am to the one who called me and know she is taking it hard.

Lorenzo,

I just blew the dust of an old John Denver album. For me it is odd to listen to  a music piece I knew so well ( “Windsongâ€?)  in “monoâ€?- for my first time…However know I am counting the blessings that I can still hear with one ear and read lyrics with one functioning eye. Little things I so took for granted before my AN journey.

Somehow I think that up in heaven there is an angel who will watch over you –  Windsong. May her spirit live on in you …and the stories you will share about her.

The lyrics below I have pasted for my ‘new buddy’ Jeff -who posted “Chateau Deaf on the forum. http://anausa.org/forum/index.php?topic=3281.0 (and others that have hearing loss in both ears) Still in his surgery recovery he still had the kindness in his heart to e-mail a petrified patient (me ) … So many dear souls there on our forum here. Lorenzo -I hope you continue to make new friends (and family) on the forum … however I know you will not forget your cherished old friend.

My prayers are with you, her friends and family- as you grieve at this time.

HUGS

Windsong
Words and music by John Denver and Joe Henry

The wind is the whisper of our mother the earth
The wind is the hand of our father the sky
The wind watches over our struggles and pleasures
The wind is the goddess who first learned to fly

The wind is the bearer of bad and good tidings
The weaver of darkness, the bringer of dawn
The wind gives the rain, then builds us a rainbow
The wind is the singer who sang the first song

The wind is a twister of anger and warning
The wind brings the fragrance of freshly mown hay
The wind is a racer, a wild stallion running
The sweet taste of love on a slow summers day

The wind knows the songs of the cities and canyons
The thunder of mountains, the roar of the sea
The wind is the taker and giver of mornings
The wind is the symbol of all that is free

So welcome the wind and the wisdom she offers
Follow her summons when she calls again
In your heart and your spirit let the breezes
Surround you
Lift up your voice then and sing with the wind

Lorenzo,

Good night my friend.  Thank you for sharing the pain of our friend Windsong's passing.  My entire thoughts  have been of her.  My oldest son who is 20, thinks her mission was to guide me to Dr Rutka.  This life of ours is so complicated.  She is watching over us.

Take care of yourself,

She got FSR Radiation the same place I did. So when i read of her passing-My heart missed a beat and tears started welling in my eyes. Oh what a beautiful lady she was. May her soul rest in peace. My heart will be heavy all day. I will never forget her-I always loved her name she used-Windsong. I hope she in Spirit will be looking over this group because many of us loved her. May God Bless You Windsong. With a Heavy Heart and a tear in my eye-Ron.

I too am taken aback by the news of Windsong's passing.  Lorenzo, you were so fortunate to have shared that which made Windsong "Windsong".  Certainly someone to emulate and also Windsong was fortunate to have shared that which makes Lorenzo "Lorenzo."  Her circle of life has been completed, but never forgotten.  Life is to be celebrated and sounds like there needs to be a raising of the glasses with a hearty "Prost" to a beautiful spirit.

Yes Patti, I do know she touched a lot of people, that's why I posted here to let everybody know; I'm glad I did. She meant a lot to many, probably more than she could have imagined. I was fortunate to be in close contact with her so I had the chance to tell how much her friendship meant to me. I hope many of you had the same chance and took it. She was extraodinary, and looking at this thread, I think she still is and always will be. She will not be forgotten, her life and spirit live on.

A big thank you to Windsong for her life and her sharing it with us.

with much love and affection,

I am so sorry for your and her families loss!  Rest in peace Windsong ..... she looks so young in that picture!  Life is so unfair sometimes - and I know - since I am newly diagnosed with this darned AN and awaiting treatment - this really puts everything into perspective  ........ that as scary and bad as an AN may be - they are thank goodness benign and there are so many more people in this world going through devastating illnesses.

((((HUGS)))) to you Lorenzo ....

I don't think there's a person on this forum that Windsong didn't at one time send a personal message to when they were hurting or having a rough time of it. I know she helped me hang in there when I came back to the forum after leaving the old listserve when my headaches were peaking and I didn't know what to do.  The ongoing comments on this thread are proof that this forum is such  an incredible source of strength, hope, and support for all of us and the passing of one of our beloved family members saddens us all. I don't know what we'd do without this support system.

We will miss you Windsong--Thank you Lorenzo for the picture--It is so good to put a beautiful face with her beautiful name.

Lorenzo, I did not know Inara as you did, but I have enjoyed her vibrant posts in this forum as Windsong. It is sad to hear she has passed away. I think you have found a brilliant picture of her to post, to help us all remember her well.

I hope you manage to deal with your grief. Weep for her loss; then find new energy and start a new page of your life. In addition to her posts, I appreciate your contributions to this forum (especially as you are a designer, not another techno-geek like me). I hope you will continue to be a part of this forum, perhaps carrying her torch forward in your own way.

I'm with Arushi, let us celebrate the spirit of this wonderful person. And here is a gentle hug for you, should the emotions of the event overwhelm you.

Lorenzo,  I'm so sorry to hear Windsong is no longer with us!  I know she made hundreds of posts that eveyone can re-read to remind them of their friendship with her.  I'm posting 2 that she posted on a thread called the "Brighter Side of Life," in hopes that your reading what she wrote will make you and others close to her feel better.  Thanks for posting her picture as I can now see her driving down the road in her blue Firebird!  Jill

Hi Jill,

I'm glad that you began this post.
The day i read it I had just come back from being at my summer shack where i relaxed and loved the blue flowers blooming... forget-me-knots. ...On my way home I thought about them and then thought about how even a memory of one happy experience visualized years later,  can increase endorphins and make one feel better..... then i came here and clicked on and read your post.... all of that  was a positive uplifting thing.

Thanks,
Windsong

am remembering a carefree day, zooming up the empty highway in Arizona to Sedona, radio on in a blue firebird, sun shining, sky so blue, space all around me, and the sounds of "Music Box Dancer" and then Blondie belting out "Heart of Glass" which had a great beat to it even if i don't recall the lyrics...lol... first trip there in '79...loved it....could see forever....

HI Steve, the emotions of the event have overwhelmed me. And still do. So thanks for the kind words and the gentle hug. I know I will be part of this group, and I know she would have liked to be too. I think she'd be happy to see all this and the bond that exists between all of us.

Hi Jill Marie, I didn't see those posts. Both posts you picked have so much meaning for me. The forget me nots which I will plant now in our garden in her memory; I've been trying to find something suitable to plant and I couldn't think, those are perfect. The bluebird, well, she talked about that time of her life a lot and she mentioned music she listened too, and I ended up downloading some for myself then and rediscovered a musician I had forgotten since college days! Plus, her son remembers that time with incredible fondness, so if he reads this he will be touched I am sure.

Seeing her words there just bring it all back to me, thanks Jill...

Steve, not to worry, the emotions are well and alive.

Ciao, Lorenzo
