Title: I'm Experiencing Oscillopsia

After having an AN surgically removed 2.5 years ago on my left I have been experiencing the sensation of my visual field bouncing up and down while outside walking.  I am only able to walk for as long as 30 minutes before I begin to fall backwards.  After attendance at the recent Symposium I talked with a few doctors and they said what I am experiencing is oscillopsia.  Also stated they would suspect another tumor in the contralateral ear (this would be rare) or an inflammation of some kind.  My question is has any NF2 patients experienced the same?

Yes the world "bouncing" a bit did happen - but that was more directly related
to a Hydrocephalus condition - the compression causes a distortion of the
optic nerve and many visual effects can occurr
An MRI will usually show Hydro to the medical proffessional
I dont think you have this - but a simple eye examination by the Doc
can easily resolve it - He can check out the back of the eyes for inflamation.
Alternatively I can forward details to you offline for the NF2 Crew
- they might be able to shed some light on it

Hi Tony,

Thank you for responding.  Yes, I would love any input you or others may have and I will look into seeing optomitrist to peek at my eyes--thanks.

I have had oscillopsia for over a year now. It has diminished slowly and I am starting to have days
where it is minimal.
I have bilateral vestibular loss.
Apparently it does disappear over time (hopefully).
It is hard to deal with. I too wouldn't mind hearing from anyone else who is bilateral.
Seems there is not many out there.

Hi Arushi;

   Did they give you an NF-2 diagnosis?
   Often, but not always, the two tumors are caught on MRI simultaneously. Mine were years apart.
   I would think if you prove to be soley unilateral, the sensation will diminish in time.
   Rules of thumb: The more good function lost abruptly, the longer the compensation time.
   If the good ear is compromised in any way, the longer or absolute impossibility of complete vestibular compensation.
   VRT, or Vestibular Rehabilitation Training, is something worth looking into but the vestibular loss must be stable ( unchanging ).
