Does anyone else have their eye water when they eat (post-surgery)? It is just my right eye (the side my tumor was on). My doctors said it is probably a result of the nerves "cross healing"...so instead of my mouth watering, my eye tears up.

I have it also and once you have it,it doesn't seem to go away. It's called crocodile tears and is kind of annoying. I had dry eye for 3 1/2 months so was nice to finally get tears. I just make sure and have a tissue handy when I eat. My nose runs also with eating. I am 3 1/2 yrs post op.

I also have it and my doctors said it is because of the way my nerves have rewired themselves. I get the eye and nose run when I eat, exercise, garden, just about anything physical. I am 7 years post-op. It gets annoying at times, but does help with the dry eye. Needless to say, I have a never ending supply of kleenex where ever I go.

I just started to notice this in the past week or so. I am 3 months post-op today. It's not that bad, but I do notice that my eye waters a bit while eating.

As for myself I also had this problem but it did get better after about 6 months or some sooner. I think it is typical for those that have AN surgery. I had the surgery two times and it both times it went away after a number of months. Good luck!

I wish watering eyes was my problem.. Yes i do get tears more so during eating.. and yes on rt side (an side)..
what really annoys me is that the eye closes while eating also. My wife and kids think i am winking at them when we eat...
I can feel it happening but can do nothing to stop it.

I have the crying eye while eating also. It does not happen all the time, so I have a napkin handy just in case. It's been two years since my surgery, so I think it's here to stay.

Happens sometimes. Still can't figure out what foods trigger it. Doctor said it will probably eventually stop. It has been ten months now. I can tell it doesn't happen as often, but still does.

The eye on my AN side waters alot when I first wake up. Just kinda drips nonstop till I get my coffee down. Nose also runs alot first thing, too, esp doing anything bending over like washing face, brushing teeth, pulling weeds, vacuuming. I have the "anti-dry eye."

My eye only occasionally tears when eating. My nose is what bugs me. Have you ever tried to impress a date while on a dinner date with a leaky nose? :-[

Don't know why I haven't seen this post earlier. I'm just 3 weeks post op and have the same problems. It was on my list of things to ask the doc next week when I go in for my post op checkup. Everything else for me has been so good, I had to search to find problems, like a watering eye, runny nose, and not being able to wink with my AN eye. That sounds stupid compared to what most experience, but its annoying. Hey, I have to find something wrong...right ;D?

The watery eye and runny nose are due to some damage to the facial nerve and I have also heard there is a pertrosal nerve nearby which can have some damage and also be a cause of it. You may also have them from now on. The wink problem may or may not improve over time. The eye area is the last to heal as the facial nerve heals from trauma due to the tumor pressing on it or some trauma just from surgery. I had the watery eye and runny nose with eating and also with being active in warm weather. I heard one lady at the AN sympsoium say she only got it when she played golf. One soon learns to always keep a tissue handy.
Not every one gets this but many do.

I must be weird as i have both dry eyes and then the An side leaky eye and drippy nose. They alternate. I had fsr. Like the rest of you commenting here, the drippy stuff usually starts in the morning if it is or when i eat or when i bend over doing something. It comes and goes. Yesterday morning I had the face leaks. The day before i had crazy dry eye and was reaching for the fake tears bottle..... so far it hasn't happened at the same time I've seen my ENT specialist, so he's never seen it, i keep telling/explaining, but i have no explanation from him for it.....I'm going to try for an answer again the next time I see him.

Funny you should mention this. I've been noticing this for a while. Wet eye when eating. That facial nerve is so intricate.

I know this is an old thread, but a google search brought me here. I had my Acoustic Neuroma removed two years ago, and I still have the crying eye when I eat certain foods. I didn't know it was a common thing until I found this thread. I brought it up with my surgeon in my first follow up visit, but he didn't have an answer for me. I still get a lot of twitching in my face on that side too, but not constantly like it was at first. Thanks for your posts, now I know I'm not just crazy.

It is an old thread, but I get the same thing, too. eye waters and nose runs when eating. worse with different foods (spicy or acidic things make it worse). Annoying, but better than having a tumor in my head!
