Title: My MRI CD cannot be read by my computer
Post by: mykey on January 29, 2007, 03:41:24 pm
It appears that my MRI CD is just a satellite connection to a online library that contains my actual images.
Has anyone else had this situation?
I did see the images in my ENT's office when I was diagnosed.
And the first surgeon we saw apparently had no problem viewing the images.
However, I would kinda like to be able to view it myself if at all possible.

You might ask your doctor what kind of software you need to support viewing the images. It could be a very specific program.

Sometimes it can be the copy itself also. You will need to check with the MRI center that copied the image and determine if it is a problem with the CD itself or if it is a programming issue. You may also ask for copies of the actual films if the cds require a particular program..that way if you confer with a doctor that is from a different group and does not have said program, they can open it...and or ask for the program to be included with the copy of the cd...which is what my MRI center did for me....
I actually have both the films and the cds just because....

Mykey,

The hospital is duty bound to hand over copies of all films - whether they be on cd or hard copy - and both medical and surgical record / transcripts. Just go back there and insist that they hand over whichever of those things you want. Most often, they don't offer them to you or invite you to take them; you have to ask for them yourself.

As far as the problem that you're having with the cd right now - I couldn't tell you, having full, big-sized copies of the negatives. Just call the radiology dept. and ask them. I've had four MRIs so far, but only have the copies from my first session. Later this year, when I go back home, I'm going to request all of them, including my surgical records.

Did you guys have to buy your CD's?  I am scheduled for my next MRI next week and I mentioned to the gal on the phone that I'd like a copy and she thought that they would charge me $25 or something.  I wasn't so sure I wanted to buy the darn thing.

I Got it!
I'm a Mac head and apparently the software that is used to display the images is Windows only.
So I tried my MRI CD on our Windows machine and it worked.
It also appears that I will be able to duplicate the CD.
Well there's 1 reason to have a PC handy.

Thanks for all the info guys.
I still have to get my original hearing test report and diagnostic report from my ENT who discovered the AN.
I don't think there will be any problem there.

Sue,
My ENT gave me the CD during the appointment that he informed me of my AN.
It seems like I remember reading in all that paperwork before my MRI that they did want $25 for report & CD copies.

Sue tell them you need a copy of your mri to hand carry to another doc and they won't charge you ;o)

You can be charged 1.00 a page for medical records up to 25.00 but most places will release them to another doctor at no charge as a professional courtesy.  Not sure about MRI's I've always just called and asked for a copy they were given to me.  I've picked them up and told them I was going to hand carry them to another facility.

Mykey glad you were able to get it opened!  I made my own copies too :o)

Hi Guys

I got a copy of the MRI CD from the techs at my MRI appointment last week.  They were happy to give it to me.  Now I can't open it either!  I'm thinking my 7 year old computer is the problem!

My first MRI CD and 3 additional copies of CDs were free.

Then I switched to a different MRI center and they gave me 1 CD for free but $20 for additional.  I just took the 1 CD home and made copies on my laptop.  The viewing software came with the CD.  They even had the first MRI images below the 2nd MRI images on the same CD.  But I noticed the images of the 1st MRI were much clearer.  I think each MRI machine is different depending on calibration, age and the operator.

I found out I can even click on the different drop down commands and do different things with them...  Pretty cool.
