Well, Chet is going through some testing and such on Thursday, so it's time to pull out our pirate socks in solidarity to help Chet, Raydean and the family get through tomorrow.
All PBW Pirate wenches and scallywags, step forth in your pirate gear as they are being put to good cause! Capt'n Deb, we need words of encouragement from our fearless Pirate Captain!

Hey I wonder if we can get pirates and shamrocks on the same pair of socks to increase the good fortune? Getting my socks out of the dryer. I wore them to Bunco Monday night and actually won 10.00! It was the first time I ever one in the couple of YEARS I've been playing so you know it had to be the socks! I know I didn't wash all the good vibes out of them! Everyone....just had a call from Raydean. Please, this is the time to work your magic, you did it with me....they haven't had the full consult with the Doc and the MRI yet, but they were able to tell her that there are abnormalities and that it may be cancer. She will call me later again with the latest update, but she and Chet need all your prayers right now.

Things aren't looking all that hot right now... Chet is going through more tests and such and based on prelim, well... they really need our hearts, our thoughts, our prayers right now. We know Raydean and Chet and the family are strong and courageous and we need to help their strength and courage continue.

Continue wearing my pirate socks (clean ones) and my husband and I are sending all of our positive thoughts and energy to Raydean and Chet.
I also met Chet and Raydean at the Seattle brunch and they are the most caring, loving and supportive people. I met them several years ago on this forum and they have dedicated so much of thier time, energy and support in helping us all through our AN journey's. God Bless them.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts,prayers and pirate socks. Please continue to do so as we are in great need of them. For anyone reading this i stress that this current medical situation IS NOT AN RELATED. nor did it arise from the AN or treatment. Probably a combination of smoking (quit 4 years ago) and working with wood all of his life. We are back home from the hospital, but return Tuesday for more tests, this will probably be as an out patient. We are in the process of setting up chemo and radiation which will buy us some time if he responds well to it. The biggest blessing at this time is that he is not in pain.

You and Chet have my thoughts and prayers and my pirate wardrobe. As a breast cancer survivor of twenty-one years and counting, one of the suggestions I was given is to envision the tumor or cells or whatever and draw a picture of it. Then draw a picture of how you are going to stamp it out. It helped get a lot of anger out and the why me. I still believe that God had the biggest affect on my recovery and everyone's prayers. I still have some of the pictures and I did some of the same therapy with my AN. Hugs, and major hugs to you both.

Raydean- I guess I missed this thread but I am here now. This AN thing has increased my faith and now am VERY religious. I will pray for you and CHet. My wife always tells me it is just as hard on the spouse as it is on the one going through the trials. You and Chet are in my prayers every day from now on. I came from another smaller site and their is a couple where he not only had an AN-he also developed a Lymphoma. Heard from her yesterday he is doing better. I realize you cannot answer every e-mail. Your time is with Chet now. Best Wishes- Ron

Hello all....Raydean is working tirelessly on getting things set up and comfortable for Chet, took him to the radiologist today and then he's off to Seattle tomorrow to have a biopsy done on the spot on his lung. I'm sure we'll have a chemo/radiation schedule soon. They've got the wheelchair ramp installed, and are getting other things around the home done to cope with his lack of balance. When Chet's in for treatment, we can all wear our socks and pirate gear and send mental messages to "shrink" all at the same time. For those of you that know the special dance for that, get outside and do it!!!! :D

Thank you for all of your hugs, prayers and positive thoughts, they are much appreciated. Over the weekend we had a ramp made for the two stairs, and a shower grab bar installed. I've a prescription for a hospital bed and wheelchair that Amy will check out for me. Today we met with the radiation Doctor. Treatment will start Wendsday. 3 this week 3 next week then 4 the following week. Had the face mask done today. He'll have proton, 30 gy over ten treatments, whole brain. This we have to travel to Lacey for, (far side of Olympia). The chemo will be done closer to home. We live in the boon docks. A trip to Seattle is pretty much a whole day thing. Olympia is an hour one way with good traffic. Forget Seattle it never has good traffic. This is made worse by the fact I'm not allowed to drive due to a vision problem. Amy is trying to work something out with the college but so far they don't quite get it. I'd be lost without her right now.
Tommorrow we head back to Seattle for a lung biospy to confirm what we allready know. Sometime in the next 2 weeks we'll meet with the chemo doctor and get that set up, to follow radiation. It's hoped that the radiation will help to reduce the balance and neuro problems which will greatly improve his quality of life. At this point someone must be with him at all times.
We have our grandson who is Poppa's best buddy talking to the school counselor. He's holding things in (alot like his Poppa).
It's really overwhelming so much to think about and do, We're all exhausted. Chet is taking 4 mg 4x daily of decatron and still sleeping.
Again thank you for all of your support, it has and will be greatly appreciated as we move forward.

Hello all....got to see Chet, Raydean and Amy yesterday on their way back from the biopsy! Gave them lots of hugs from all of you here! He has his first radiation treatment this afternoon in Olympia, and should get the biopsy path back on Friday. He's keeping his sense of humor and it was really good to see them all.
If anyone wants to help out the family, I'm coordinating that....just contact me privately and I can let you know how you can help.

To begin with I know my mom is gonna read this as soon as she gets home :) I just wanted to let everyone know that I could never thank all of you enough for the positive thoughts, emails and wishes that you are sending to my parents. Knowing that you all are here for my mom and dad means alot to me. Thank you so much!!!!
My dad has his first radiation treatment later this afternoon but right before that i do believe he now has an appointment with the oncologist. Also, between this afternoon and tomorrow we will have his hospital bed delivered so he can be even more comfortable while sleeping and relaxing.

Hi All. Its Amy. As you read my dad was transported to the local hospital at about 1am this morning. It was a rough night prior to him being taken in. (Major headache, weakness and vomiting). My dad was admitted into his room at about 9am this morning and he will be there for a few days. It does look like it was a combination of dehydration, weakness from treatments, and they noticed in his x-rays that he has pneumonia starting in his left lung. They are treating him with antibiotics, pain med, and a mild sedative so he is resting. I know my mom will fill in the blanks in here that i missed when she comes home. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers!!

As some of you already know, according to Raydean the family is making some big decisions together and probably getting hospice involved. Please keep those pirate socks on, and Deb, yes, I think it's time for the full regalia. If Amy or Raydean doesn't get on to update, I hope to talk to one of them today and I will. Chet's still, as of last night, at the hospital in Aberdeen.

Thanks to you all that made the call tonight, was able to get Amy on for a little bit!! I've talked to her several times today, and this is the update; they can't get the hospice paperwork in till Monday, so Chet will be in the hospital till then, then will be transported home. They have a hospital bed waiting for him there, and hospice will come in everyday to help. He is discontinuting any treatment at this time, and is going home to be comfortable with his family. He has a touch of pneumonia in his lung they did the biopsy in as well.
They realized they didn't have any family photos where everyone is in the picture, so a photographer will come out tomorrow as all their kids are there. They are all hanging in there OK, and really appreciate all your words of kindness and encouragement, so keep them coming! As always, contact me privately if you would like to know where to send cards, etc.

Hello all, just talked to Raydean, and she let me know that she believes he may not make it more than another week. She said that she wanted you all to know, and hospice will evaluate him tomorrow and she thinks that is what they will tell her. His lungs are really congested sounding. I'll update the moment I know anything more.

Yes, Kathleeen, you are doing a wonderful job of representing this entire AN community from the US and around the world. I thank you, along with all the rest for being so kind and thoughtful and for being our link to Chet and Raydean and their family in this very sad time for them. Hello all,
Some of you know I was able to go see Chet and family at home yesterday. They're still struggling to get him and the routine settled, but are getting there. He's in his hospital bed, propped up, spoiled with any TV he wants....he's confined to bed now with hospice coming in daily and the sponge bath nurse coming in 3x a week. He's not able to really talk, but did give me a hello wink and although medicated, cognizant of the world around him. The family is really rallying together to make this time good for him. They obviously have a lot of love for this great man and they're letting him know that. We got Raydean out for lunch and tried to make her laugh a little...which kinda worked. Keep the prayers coming for them, and as always, contact me if you'd like to know where to send cards and help. Thank you!!!

I've just called my oldest 2 children home, Amy is in route to pick up my oldest daughter. Damon is driving home now. Now it's time to share with our AN family. This is probably one of the hardest posts that I've ever written. Chet is declining on a daily basis and we will soon be at the end, probably by this week end. My main goal now is to keep him comfortable and to surround him with love. We will keep him home till that time with all family members present.

Chet passed away at 7:20 pacific time this evening. Raydean said that he slipped away very quietly. I will let you all know as soon as I do what's next...not the time to ask now. For you locals, I will post as soon as I know about services.

I know its been a while since we have written but here is a short update....
This Friday, Feb 23rd at 2pm at Tahoma National Cemetary in Kent, WA is my dad's military internment. His full obituary will be in our local newspaper and online at www.thedailyworld.com on Sunday Feb 25. His Celebration Of Life is taking place here in Montesano on March 3rd at 2pm.
Thank you everyone for the cards, prayers and well wishes. We really do appreciate all of them. I know once things calm down some more one of us will be back on here to give you all another update. Thank You everyone!

we are spending this week getting everything ready for dad's celebration of life that is coming up on the 3rd of march.
we are all hanging in there...somedays are a little better than others but with time things should get easier....

Chester ‘Chet’ Daymon Bledsoe, Jr.
Chester “Chet� Daymon Bledsoe, Jr., 59, a longtime resident of Grays Harbor and former Lumber Yard Foreman at Levee Lumber, died at his home with his family around him on Friday evening, Feb. 9, 2007, following a short battle with cancer.
Chet was born on June 8, 1947, in Venice, Calif., to Chester D. Sr. and Francis (Benham) Bledsoe. His family moved to Hoquiam when he was 16, and he graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Bauer in 1966-67, and then the U.S.S. Uhlmann in 1968, as a Gunners Mate during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and moved to Westport, where he worked as a Commercial Fisherman until 1971.
It was during this time that he met and later married Raydean Ann Wilson on Dec. 19, 1970, in Aberdeen. She resides at the family home in Montesano.
In 1971, they moved to Canoga Park, Calif., and then to Simi Valley, Calif., where he worked for Andrews Lumber until 1977, when they moved to Montesano. Chet worked for ITT Rayonier on Moon Island from 1977 until 1982. Chet then went to work for Bayview Lumber which later became Levee Lumber in Hoquiam as a truck driver and proceeded to work his way up to yard foreman.
Chet retired in 1997, after he was diagnosed with Acoustic Neuroma, a brain tumor. This didn’t get Chet down; he accepted it and decided to live his life the best he could. Chet got active in the Acoustic Neuroma Association, becoming CO-Leader of the Washington State Chapter. He was always there to encourage others as they received their diagnoses, be it England, Australia or Eastern Washington. He kept an upbeat spirit and passed it on to others.
Chet was a man of his word. If he promised you, he’d do it. Chet also loved his grandson, Aaron, very much. The two of them were inseparable, where one was the other was there too. He liked fishing, clamming, road trips and being outdoors or on the beach.
Chet is survived by his wife of 36 years, Raydean Bledsoe of Montesano; a son, Damon Bledsoe of Auburn; two daughters, Lisa Bledsoe of Everett, and Amy Bledsoe of Montesano; a grandson, Aaron Bledsoe; and Chet’s best friend, Steve Beardslee of Hoquiam. Chet was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karina Bledsoe; a sister, Donna Bledsoe; and his parents, Francis and Chester Bledsoe, Sr.
A private inurnment was held on Feb. 23, 2007, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, Wash., with full military honors.
A celebration of Chet’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Montesano City Hall, 2nd floor.
The family asks that donations be made to a college fund for Chet’s grandson, Aaron Bledsoe, at any Sterling Savings Bank under the name of Aaron Bledsoe.

Words can never express my gratitude for the prayers, positive thoughts, cards,postings and the many acts of kindness that we received over the past couple of months. When I encounter a low time i often wrap myself up in Chet's blanket and reread the many cards. I've saved each one. They are a constant reminder that you guys are with me on this journey too.
Just as finding our way after Chets surgery and complications was difficult at first , we're trying to find our way on this journey. There's a Hebrew proverb which states Say not in grief " he is no more", but live in thankfulness that he was. And that's true. I am ever so thankful that Chet and I had 36 years together. He truly was one of the good guys and I've been blessed. I am also blessed to have my AN family. Each one of you are special and has a place in my heart.
Again, Thank you for everything, but especially for being there for us during this time.
