I would like you to list the size of your AN -preop, surgical approach,
and amount of hearing preservation before and after operation.
Me-
1. 5cm left AN from IAC to cerebellum/brainstem
2. Endoscopic (dime size through mastoid)
3. High tones disappeared 2 mos pre op. Heard low tones.
4. NO, NADA ZILCH- Hearing (was to be expected of course-had to take the vestibcochlear nerve out with the tumor)

1. 3.5 cm plus (not sure exactly how much, but it was bigger than anticipated)
2. Translab approach
3. 12% hearing loss before surgery
4. No hearing at all (but hoping to get a TransEar soon)

I lost my hearing before my diagnosis :O(

1. Tumor size - 2.5 cm + 5 cm cyst. It was big
2. Retrosigmoid approach
3. Perfect hearing before,
4. Very little hearing after. This residual hearing was wiped out by subsequent translab revision. However, I could tell the difference between very little hearing post retrosigmoid and no hearing after translab

Tumor 2cm X 1.5 X 1
Translab approach
Over a period of several years lost 65% of hearing, otherwise few symptoms except URI's
After surgery deaf in that ear
Use a TransEar for satisfactory summation and near normal auditory "balance"

Tumor: full 2cm
Retrosigmoid approach
Preop loss of 80% hearing
Post op deaf right ear

Prior to surgery 90% loss in left ear, after surgery none. Translab, 4+cm.

1.5cm X 1.0cm extracanalicular AN, left side
Pre-op: hearing loss -70db (unable to understand speech in the left ear), only able to hear low tones in left ear.
Retrosigmoid
Post-op: total hearing loss left ear.

1.2 cm tumor R side, all in the IAC
Mid Fossa but am not sure why it wasn't trans lab. I was not very AN savvy at that time
Had already lost all the hearing in that ear over 8 mos time. Didn't realize it was over such a short time period till got copies of the audiograms some time later.
Didn't realize I was NF2 at the time of the first surgery.
Having some hearing loss in the left now. Audiogram next week.

looks possibly like the 2-2.5cm and above had total or almost total Hearing loss.
Hey I found out why High tones go out first when you get an AN.
The hearing nerve (vestibular cochlear) is like bundled wires that make up a cable.
The outer wires of the nerve carry the high tones, while the inner nerves carry the deep and low.
so when you compress the nerve (tumor) it compresses the top layers first.-at least thats what an audiologist told me.
COOL! Thats why I couldn't hear those darn chipmunks!
