Title: Symptoms Before Diagnosis
Post by: evt on August 04, 2019, 12:06:18 am
Hi, I was wondering if any of those diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma had any of the following symptoms before being diagnosed, maybe even a long time before being diagnosed. Thanks!

1. Unilateral Tinnitus that decreased in volume over several months, but was/is 24/7

2. Tensor tympani syndrome/muscle spasms in ear (occasional fluttering/thumping in 1 ear when hearing some sounds or burping/yawning)

3. Decreased evoked otoacoustic emissions in 1 ear.

I had tinnitus for long time before being diagnosed.  It was not high in volume and it varied.  At first I did not recognize it as tinnitus.  I thought I was hearing static.  I did not experience the other symptoms you listed.

Hey Enri,

1. Yeah I had something like this.  I had really intermittent tinnitus which appeared then completely resolved, then fluctuated for quite awhile.  The type changed a lot as well - started high frequency, then low frequency, then pulsatile.  Now, it's 24/7

2. Yes.  I also have this.  The fluttering / thumping is familiar with me.  Internal ear air pressure changes definitely cause interesting symptoms - in my case, gaze disturbances / a little disequilibrium.

3. I'm not sure what this means, sorry
